Description The fan is made from basswood, paint, and fabric. The design is based on the one from the promotional art for the courtesan.

I think my templar cross is a little too short and I'm a little worried that it won't stand out, but we will see... I suspect I'll be making a few adjustments to this before taking it outside.

It's awesome!!
As an aspiring Assassin, what did you use to attach the blades together? Does it move?

Yes it moves! I can fold it up and open it up again. It's held together with strips of stretchy fabric between blades. Imagine a piece of ribbon with elasticity. It's like that.

Oh wow! That's really clever! I thought there was a bolt or something holding all blades at the bottom! ^^
Thank you so much for the reply!

Oh yeah, there's a wooden peg at the bottom pinning all the blades in place. The top blades are held with fabric to stop them from spreading too far.

what would this cost?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tasukigirl In reply to 3dfluf [2013-09-26 03:24:16 +0000 UTC]

Do you mean for the supplies to make it yourself or for a commission? Making it yourself in much much cheaper.

for a commish, just curious

tasukigirl In reply to 3dfluf [2013-09-27 01:26:34 +0000 UTC]

I don't commission these because of the amount of labor that goes into it. The materials aren't too expensive, but the hand painting is killer.

I apologize if I already sent this to you. I really love that fan, by chance you selling this one or willing to make one? (not needing one till august!)

Unfortunately, now through the end of July is con season for me. I'll be working on my new projects. :/

Just bad timing, I guess. I'm not organized enough yet to be able to handle commissions. :3

So cool, I think this is the best courtesan's fan I've seen! The patterns look great, and it looks really sturdy (especially knowing it's made of wood).

The photo of your cosplay looks amazing, I can't wait to see more!

tasukigirl In reply to DemoraFairy [2011-03-27 22:35:00 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I'm hoping it holds up. I used fairly thin strips of basswood so it can still break if I'm too harsh with it. But I also don't think I'll really be clocking anyone.

The costume is in progress. @_@

Wood is probably better than card, which is what I made my mine out of. Keep the hidden gun for the killing, then

tasukigirl In reply to DemoraFairy [2011-03-28 05:26:48 +0000 UTC]

Just be careful how you store it? And yes, the hidden gun is indeed handy. XD I figured I'll be relying on it in the event my weapon has to be peace bonded.

DemoraFairy In reply to tasukigirl [2011-03-30 10:44:56 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'll be careful with it, and I should probably stop playing with it constantly as well lol

tasukigirl In reply to DemoraFairy [2011-03-31 01:43:35 +0000 UTC]

Aha, I'm terrified that I'll break mine so I hardly touch it. The blades are fine, but the backside of the pin holding it together is a little fragile. The design isn't perfect. I might have to brainstorm a little to make it sturdier.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DemoraFairy In reply to tasukigirl [2011-03-31 22:53:20 +0000 UTC]

Oh dear :S My excuse for playing with it now is that if it's going to break, at least it'll break when I'm at home and can fix it rather than breaking at the expo Looks sturdier than mine, but looks can be deceiving. Mine's held together with a pin that I clipped each end off, then bent around. It seems sturdy enough, but it's only got to support card, not wood. I hope you find a better way to secure it!

tasukigirl In reply to DemoraFairy [2011-04-01 01:23:50 +0000 UTC]

That is an excellent reason to play with it. I'm going to go do that... so I can figure out how to fix it when it breaks.

DemoraFairy In reply to tasukigirl [2011-04-01 10:04:07 +0000 UTC]

Yep, this was my mistake with my previous cosplays, the expo was the first time I actually wore them for more than about 5 mins and by the end of the day they'd all broken somehow. Not this time! It's also my excuse for wearing my cosplay while I'm making it

It looks beautiful and deadly, just like it should if it's what I think it is. Or am I wrong in assuming the courtesan uses a bladed fan?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tasukigirl In reply to jazzknh [2011-02-20 00:54:52 +0000 UTC]

Nope, you're right. It's a bladed fan.

Impressive!
Did you free-hand the design?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tasukigirl In reply to AnimeFreakKai [2011-02-16 06:17:31 +0000 UTC]

I did! I kept trying to make a stencil via photoshop from the high res scan of the promo art and it was not working. So then I drew it by free hand in like 5 minutes. @_@ I scanned it in and cleaned it up and used that to make a stencil instead.
