yeah, I have social anxiety and it took allot for me to show my cosplay.  let alone talk to people in person, unless I'm super comfortable with them 

I start to stutter and when I feel I'm about to, I kinda cover my mouth or walk away.   I practice talking with dealers. 

at Sanjapan, I was glared by other AC cosplayers, they had a shoot and i just didn't go.  

I wanted to go to the one at oni-con but just…couldn't, so I chilled on the balcony.

 I was a very shy kid growing up, so I have a little bit of a sense about what sort of anxiety you might be talking about. When I was younger, my heart used to race and sometimes I could feel myself shaking just trying to say hi and introduce myself. I'm still pretty shy but cosplaying for so many years has helped me to break out of my shell and to be braver about talking to people. I really hope that cosplay can become a more comfortable space for you, and if I can ever do anything to help, you let me know.

My social anxiety. I didn't start talking to people till I was 26. I was bullied all my life and hid behind a book and never talked.

I couldn't eat in public till I was 25. I won't go to the store alone or anywhere unless I have to. That's how bad my SA is.

I didn't start going out till I was 27.

I fear cameras but force myself to come out of my shell. Suffering from social anxiety, depression, insomnia, OCD has it's downsides and I notice that cosplaying has helped me cope.

though before and after cons, I get real sick but go. I enjoy people watching and watching panels. My stepdad or a couple of friends go with me and I'm okay but afterwards, I am sick. I do enjoy meeting new people and talking but they have to speak to me first, I just fear approaching people. I will talk to dealers though.

I found my fencing team love to cosplay and so I talk to them like no tomorrow but I only see them on campus. 

I did talk to other ac cosplayers who just glared at me, same with other cosplayers. A connor ken way asked if I was a lame as pirate, at alamo city comicon. I got mad at him and yelled at him. I had a loki refuse to let me take a pic of him but when another woman asked, he said sure. =/
I am slowly overcoming my fear but also cosplaying has started to make me want to go back into my shell. I won't and still continue.

I think the challenge with cosplay is that everyone has different reasons. Some people do want to be internet famous and they assume everyone else does too. I cosplay because I love to make things. Meeting like-minded friends has been a bonus, but it's difficult even for me to make friends at conventions. I have an easier time forming friendships online and then meeting them in person at conventions. There is an AC specific group on FB if you want me to add you. But no pressure! This is your choice.
