Oooh boy. My life is so not going to plan right now XD

The thing is, this was originally going to be for a 'Your Horse Here' auction (my ongoing campaign to raise points).

See, I'm not overly fond of jumping poses. I find them fiddly at times, but I don't think I totally suck. And some of them are really nice and dynamic visually. I just don't really enjoy drawing them.

So when I started sketching out the pose while in our regular Indian restaurant last night, this was a prime candidate. Its just not my kind of pose; no way I'd get attached, right?

Wrong.

And it was all going great, too. Until my brain said, 'hey, for the background, let's do a sunset. Pretty sky, lovely colours, nice and soothing and as a bonus, we get to play with backlighting'. And because I'm an idiot, I went 'sure, that sounds like a genius idea'.

It wasn't.

It was over halfway done when my treacherous brain then said, 'hey - you know Kairi? Your bio lumino Faime? You know how you always wanted to paint her in that inbetween time, as her bio is kind of breaking out? Well...lookie here at this pretty sunset and backlighting we've got...'

At which point, I might have actually whacked myself around the head.

SO. It ended up becoming Kairi, because I really have wanted to play with her bio and lighting for a while. And I have to try - yet again - to post a YHH that I'm not attached to. This sucks.

Seriously - do any of you have any idea how many of the pictures in my gallery started out life, intended for auction? It's painful.

I have a load of fun ideas on how I think bio shows up. If only I could do any kind of animation, I'd love to actually draw one of those ideas. For now, though, this one. The idea being that Kairi's right side looks normal, as it's bathed in light. This side of her is already glowing, because the sun is so low that night's basically arrived and her left is cast in shadow. If you know her design, you know that her bio covers her chest, forelegs and back, but where the light shines over her back and around her shoulder, the bio is still dormant.

Its an idea that I love, I'm just not good at actually depicting it. So...hope you like it

The glow was difficult, too. Sometimes I think it's not enough, sometimes I think it's too much. So I just stopped messing with it.

For the art itself: It was a pencil sketch, scanned (with so much trouble, you don't even know) and then edited in PS (my angles and proportions were wonky). It was then lined and greyscaled, then the background painted. A number of tweaks and edits were made as I went through, though mainly to the headshape later, when I decided it had to look more like Kairi. Then a heck ton of messing around with layers and filters to get the bio and the reflections of it right, afterwards. Its taken ages. I really should count.

Also, its actually quite big, thanks to me lining over the original sketch scan. So it basically broke dA when I tried to upload it. This is a downsized version
