Description

Foal is Born

This little colt was born happy and healty, as planned, on Bonfire night. He's a wild bay, flaxen carrier with ermine marks on his hind leg and a little fleshmark trailing between his nostrils and onto his lower lip.

Because of his father, he's very sweet and loves people. We think he's as amused by his handlers as we are by his spirited, playful antics. From his mother he can be a little sensitive to pressure, so he'll require a fair bit of patience when halter breaking and backing, but like both his parents, he's got a good soul and wants to please.

He's born with AHA points, as both parents are finest, but calculating them all will be the new owner's responsibility. As is giving him a name and developing his foal personality as he grows up.

Owner:
Name: Farlas
Breed: Arabian (Egyptian 2/3 Crabbet 1/3)
Colour: Wild Bay (flaxen Carrier)
Genotype: Ee/A+a/Ff

The winner...is....

What's happening?

Two of my Arabian mares, Aphie and Mossy, are not open for breeding. I love them to pieces, and so I'm fussy about breeding them because too many foals get forgotten or just sold on again. So I decided to hold an auction of types because - hopefully - getting you to put effort into getting the foal will encourage you to continue to draw them later.

What do I have to do?

First, do you even want an(other) Arabian horse? If the answer is yes - stick around Do you want an Arabian foal from Aphie? Still yes? Okay.

1. Make sure you're happy with the rules for participating.

2. Draw a breeding picture, full body, of Aphie with your chosen stallion.

3. Upload your bid. Title it how you like, add it to whatever groups you feel like BUT! The comments must say somewhere that the breeding is a bid for a foal, and not official or recognised unless you win along with the proper copyrights and whatever story you may want to add.

4. Send me a link to your bid via note so I can feature it as a thumbnail here.

5. Wait until the deadline when I will announce the winner.

If you win: You can add the breeding picture bid to any relevant rpg stable groups as it is now official and you have until January 1st to upload the foal's reference and register him/her with your preferred breed group and/or the HARPG.

How will I be judged?

I will be judging this on effort and intent

Effort: If your bid is shaded with a background, you're more likely to win the foal than if you put forward a flat coloured picture with ponies floating in thin air. But it works both ways - A detailed pair of horses with no background will hold its own against more sketchy shading with one.

Intent: Again, those who do this aspect will have more chance of winning than those who do not. fill in your answer to both of the following questions in the artist comments of your bid:

Why do you want this foal?
What are your plans for him/her?

How will I know if I've won?

The deadline for this is currently set for November 3rd
The aim is to have the foal designed and 'born' on Bonfire night (coz I'm odd like that).

Check back to this deviation then, and I will place the winner's thumbnail image and their name at the top of the comments. I will also note them to organise the foal's design.

Note: You don't have to preregister, or anything, but if I don't know you're interested, I have no way of knowing if anyone needs an extension, which I can reconsider if its in great demand.

The Rules

1. Only realistic, purebred Arabian stallions. Non negotiable.

2. Stallions must be registered with the AHA and have existed for at least 6 months [ie, their reference was posted on DA before April of this year]. If you have a stallion a little more recent, registered with another breed group or just HARPG, contact me and I may be willing to negotiate on a case-by case basis.

Bonus: Any AHA points or stars from breed systems will be taken into account, as this is proof - to me - that you draw the horses in your stable.

3. You must have an active role play stable. You do not need to be registered with the HARPG specifically. Non negotiable - I want the foal to be drawn and interacted with.

4. No buyouts or point bidding - art bids only.

5. Bids must feature your chosen stallion and Aphie and be full body. Tracing of any kind is not allowed, nor is use of your own/commissioned or free linearts. Non negotiable - I'm working with HARPG rules for this one.

6. You may not bid for the foal if you intend to sell it on after winning it. Non negotiable.

7. I may look to get prints of this image made in the future, either possibly using the designed foal. If you win and feel strongly either way, use of that design can be discussed.

8. You will have until New Year to upload the foal's ref and get him/her registered with the AHA and/or HARPG. If this is not done, I will strongly consider giving the foal to the runner up.

9. Because this has come up: The Stallion should be your own and meet the criteria. I would rather people did not lease a horse but if you really want to take part, please note me. I will allow leasing on a case by case basis.

Please ask if you have any other questions.

Aphie's reference can be found here: [link]

And for the genetic nuts, her genotype is: ee/aa/ff

Artist corner:

This was actually a ton of fun to do I actually sort of used a ref and paid a bit more attention to the lineart. And I'm steadily getting addicted to the airbrush
Both the foal and Aphie are greyscale, though in a slightly different way to normal, and I'm well aware that Aphie's quarters are shot to pieces and she looks a tad sway-backed. On the other hand - I love, love how the foal came out

Started this around two-ish, so its taken about half a day.
This used as a reference for a gesture sketch, but I'd lost it before I started lining: [link]

So far there's only two people who've bidded, so I'm really dreading choosing a winner XD

I'm judging based on effort (and I can do some pretty awful backgrounds at times) but you'd need to own a stallion that qualifies.

You can always scout around DA for other foals, if you're looking to get one

Would a polish arab qualify?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to Stony-Creek-Stables [2012-10-08 09:41:36 +0000 UTC]

A polish Arabian is allowed, since it's a pureblood strain, however you need to have owned the stallion since before April this year, evidenced by a reference sheet uploaded before then.

Yayy! I created him Also, on the ref, there was an...er.. incident...
I was trying to figure out how people do peafowls...and forgot to change the name, so the thingy was over writed....and now he has a peafowl ref Do you want me to make a new one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to Stony-Creek-Stables [2012-10-08 17:10:46 +0000 UTC]

First, peafowl is a Nordanner mutation. You'd need to talk to Dane or one of her Nordy mods about that, but even if peafowl can occur on an Arabian horse - it wouldn't be realistic and therefore wouldn't be accepted as a stallion for this breeding.

Secondly, if you just created the stallion he won't be elligible either. This breeding is only available to people who have owned a suitable Arabian stallion since before this April.

No I mean I was trying to figure out how people do it in case I was ever commissioned to do one or did a fan art of one. I know it doesn't occur in Arabs or anything like that.

Also, I guess t wouldn't work than, I haven't had this stable since April D:

Oh, sorry - I misunderstood that -headdesk-

And no - you haven't had the stable long enough for this breeding, then. But if you do a search on DA, there's always Arabian foals up for grabs in auctions or adoptions

Tattered-Dreams In reply to KQBWLaura [2012-10-07 00:00:10 +0000 UTC]

Haha, its not any real colour - Just something blank until the stallion's genes can dictate the foal's colouration.

(though for the sake of argument, you could say its an exaggerated form of gulatra plume XD)

Tattered-Dreams In reply to Zephyrra [2012-10-06 21:50:15 +0000 UTC]

Thanks ^^ And that's why I'm being so fussy over it all - I do want to see her foal actually making a name for itself

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zephyrra In reply to Tattered-Dreams [2012-10-06 21:53:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I don't blame you. That and since I'm not in HARPG I can't join the AHA, so it wouldn't exactly be worth it anyway.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Tattered-Dreams In reply to Zephyrra [2012-10-06 22:00:36 +0000 UTC]

I say AHA because that's what I register all mine with, but any of the equivalents would be okay (as long as they are registered and not just lost in the ether XD)

Tattered-Dreams In reply to tangledwoods [2012-10-06 21:47:36 +0000 UTC]

Yup - Aphie's gonna have another foaly

And lol - sorry :\

I haven't addressed it in the rules because I'd prefer if the stallion was your own, but if you want to lease a stallion who does meet the requirements, I think I'd be okay with it - as long as the stallions owner understands all the rules and is happy with them Just be warned you'd have to rely solely on effort, since even if the stallion was finest three times over, the art to get him there wouldn't be yours (if you want to consider that option, do some scouting and note me )
