Well, frick. I always forget what I want to say as soon as I start uploading. Maybe I should start with the story? Okay.

Phen was sick and tired of wandering the same old land, hunting the same old prey, and meeting the same old people. She always believed that new experiences would help her learn, but it became increasingly clear that she was going nowhere. She needed to move on, if only for a while. So she quitted her old home and headed south, the warm climate a welcome change to the cold winters of the north.

Unfortunately, the further south she ran, the lonelier and more desolate the land became. There were no wolves, and trees were close to nonexistent in the wide open plains she found herself in. Chilling winds quarreled with her every day. There were, however, a couple unexpected benefits. She became more vigilant, more hardened, and more tactful. The direct winds developed her senses and gave her a more stable stance. New herbs and plants revealed themselves to her. And there was a new prey she had never encountered before; Caribou, a dangerous ungulate that bore antlers whether they were male or female. And plenty of plains hares.

Phen was correct to think that the area was deprived of others until she met up with a band of wolves herself. With an alpha male and female leading the group and their three young offspring accompanying them, they were too small to be considered a pack and therefore didn't have a territory. But they were the start of one, that was certain. And to Phen's surprise, they had branched off of a clan that had come from many regions and had thrived for decades. They may have been small, but they were knowledgeable.

Despite the abundance of prey, chasing them across such a rugged and stone-laden terrain was not Phen's specialty. The rogues could tell that immediately, and feeling pity for the half-starved female, decided to take her under their wing until she adjusted. Phen asked for their teachings. Surprised but amused, they accept.

"Do not be tempted to approach the elk in the wind's direction. They are powerful and will smell you immediately. Run with your body parallel to the wind; You must be as straight as a rough-legged hawk through a storm, or a copperhead as it strikes. Your spine is elastic- Can you feel it pulling on your shoulders and thighs as they thrust you forward? The ground is uneven- You must pull your head back when it slopes and bend it down when it declines. The prey is the target, but the rocks are obstacles. You have claws- Use them for sharp turns. Remember these things".

One day, Phen asks that she must once again return to the land she had come from. But the male is unwilling to let his pupil go without her proving that his efforts were of usefulness. He and his wolves watch from a safe distance as Phen approaches a herd.

She runs. The elk scatter. She pursues it. It stumbles and falls down a short cliff, and Phen, too determined on making her teacher proud, dives in as well.

She gets her prize, by the way. But after falling about ten feet, rolling down a hill studded in sharp rocks, being crushed under a cow elk, and almost killing herself. Phen the moron strikes again.

This actually started out as a sketchdump but I got inspired and turned it into a comic. So the sequencing and positions are kind of awful. Just enjoy comic, okay?

I'm almost embarrassed to submit this to the group. Geez.
