Collab with Banksia-Ghost of her lovely OC Okito

So for this piece, I tried to include some symbolism, which I never do but wanted to try because his story really inspired me! <3
So his backstory is really quite heart breaking and he struggles through so much, but I still wanted to also show his more positive side as he always tries to stay strong and keep going.
So the darker background is supposed to represent many of the hardships in life, but he always tries his best to manage and move forward, so I wanted to include him focusing on the positive things, which are the apple blossoms which represent hope, good fortune, better things to come. Because I hope good things will come for him in the end ;_;
So wow that's such a long description

This was done with watercolors?! For a moment there, I thought it was Copic markers because the coloring is so smooth~ 
I love the contrast between the dark bg and the floating flowers. The whole drawing gives me a calm, serene feeling and I hope the character's fate has brighter things in store (like the symbolism suggests). ^w^

I think the brown part in the background I added afterwards, but everything else is watercolour ^^

Oh, I see~ It fits well nonetheless! ^w^ Backgrounds with watercolors can be tricky if you don't have masking fluid or masking tape tbh.
LOL Same here XD Although, so far I mostly use them for shadows in my black and white drawings or sketches. I don't have enough of them to color stuff properly XD

Lol, I sometimes use masking fluid (rarely though) but backgrounds are still tricky for me regardless xD
I bought a bunch of copics second hand so they were much more affordable... but many have run out or are low on ink, I actually loved using them for grayscale work, but they were the ones that ran out first

Ohhhh and how's the experience? I haven't tried masking fluid myself yet, but one of my friends had her paper ripped from a masking fluid once
LOL, yeah that's how it goes... Good things don't last forever T^T Have you considered buying a refill? Even ciao copics can be refilled, but I think you have to buy the same color code of your copic for it to work

Haha! I totally understand that it though, I react the same way with art trades often, it's kinda magical to see how others interpret my OCs I find 
But yes, I loved to hear about his backstory, even if it was sad in parts - what happened with Hiro TT^TT - Too tragic! ;_;

I couldn't help writing a wall of text, I turned into a fangirl when I saw Okito drawn this way >////< Ooh, it means so much to me that you read his bio and enjoyed it - even though, yes, it's rather tragic D: the plot with Hiro is a pretty important part of the story because it affects the lives of three different main characters (Okito, Seichi and Torao) so part of the same story is also told in Seichi's bio xD
Ahhh I don't know anything about flower meanings either X'P but you can draw flower petals beautifully I must say O__O The symbolism is perfect for Okito visually, waa

The shirt was tricky but so fun to paint, thank you for noticing.
Lol! I used a nice photoshop brush for them, which I could share but other than that, they are pretty simple. I get the feeling the brushes in clip studio might be even better for it though. ^^
