So for those of you who don't know, I really don't think after being brainwashed by Zira his entire life, Kovu would give it up for Kiara, their relationship happened very quickly and seemed to be a plot point made simply to give a 'happy ending'.

In my theory, Kiara and Kovu are named official mates at the end of TLK 2. For a while things are fairly quiet, Kiara takes a few more hunting lessons with her mother in preparation for the first hunt (Or rather the do-over of her first hunt). Eventually, she is ready and once more Kiara goes out for her first hunt, unable to become Queen without completing the hunt alone. The other lioness were on their own hunt in another area of the pridelands. Kovu and Simba were alone, the two had been getting closer the King finally letting down his guard around the former heir of Scar. Kovu paced and Simba approached him telling him not to worry. Before Simba could react Kovu pounced at him and knocked him to the floor, claws digging into his chest. Simba didn't understand until he saw Zira come out of the shadows. Kovu killed Simba as his mother congratulated him.

Kiara returned first having caught an antelope on her first hunt. She knew the other lioness so the quiet of priderock shouldn't have made her feel so uneasy. She dropped the prey at the foot of priderock making her way up to the den calling out to her father and mate. It was only when she got to the den did she realised why she hadn't been greeted. Simba, her father was laid on the floor dead. Kiara hadn't noticed Kovu until he brought attention to himself by speaking. Kiara in a fit of rage launched herself towards Kovu, he was caught off guard and she tore part of his ear off and scratched his nose. Kovu laughed "I'll be honest I wasn't expecting that from you Kiara... I underestimated you." Kovu managed to pin Kiara as Zira came over "Now, now Kovu. We need her." Kiara couldn't believe it "You're alive?" Zira smirked "It takes more than water to keep me down." Kiara fought to try and throw Kovu's weight but he was stronger than her. Zira explained that Kiara was now Queen with Simba dead and seeing as she and Kovu were mates if Kiara were in an 'accident' the throne would go to Kovu. The threat was clear, if Kiara didn't comply she would be killed.

The pride returned and Kovu openly admitted to killing Simba and took claim to the throne, the pride even the former outsiders revolted. This wasn't right Simba should be king, why had Kovu betrayed the pride this way. Kiara was used as a bargaining chip. Nala challenged Kovu and in turn, Kovu threatened Kiara life, reminded her about the fate that Kopa and Aisha met. Nala backed down not wanting her only remaining child to be harmed.

Kovu rained just as Scar did, Zira as his adviser. Kiara was still 'Queen' a title Kovu used to mean lead huntress. Most of the lioness were pregnant with Kovu's cubs, he wanted a male heir. The older lioness in the pride had lived through Scar's reign and were wise to these sorts of tricks. They helped to get a group together willing to kill Kovu. In secret, they asked Kiara for her permission knowing this operation was risky and that Kiara would need to be okay to be a lone Queen. Kiara agreed knowing that for the pridelands to thrive they needed rid of Kovu. The plan worked Kovu and Zira were both killed, this time they made sure Zira was dead.

Kiara gave birth to cubs not too long before Kovu's death and she had four cubs Hofu, Apazi, Haitiri and Chaka. She loved her cubs even if she wasn't exactly proud of their father, they were all beautiful and each had their own personalities that always managed to make her laugh. She ruled alone for a lot of years and her cubs were young enough that they didn't remember their father. As they reached cubhood (5-6 in human years), a stranger entered the pridelands. Kiara was on patrol that day and cornered male, he seemed genuinely apologetic but Kiara's experience with Kovu had left her slightly bitter and untrusting.

The male explained that it was a tradition in his pride for their prince to leave when the mane was growing, they had to live on their own for a while until there mane was funny grown at which point they were supposed to return. When he had tried to return he found his pride were no longer in their homelands so he had wandered again, he didn't realise he was intruding on territory he would leave before the King arrived. Kiara scoffed "We have no King, this is my pride. I am Queen of the Pridelands." the male blinked before he said "Kiara? Is that you?" Kiara looked sceptical "What... How do you my name?" the male laughed softly "Kiara is me, Kiume." Kiara's eyes widened "Kiume! Oh my, I didn't even recognise you!" when Kiara was a cub Kiume's pride had visited and betrothed Kiume to Kiara. However, after the incident with Zira and Kopa, the Northernlands called off the betrothal in case their son was caught in the crossfire. After all Kiume would be King. Kiara brought Kiume back to priderock where her cubs were waiting. They greeted her and Kiume was confused "Cubs? I thought you didn't have a King?" Kiara nodded "We did... Kovu..." the cubs knew better than to stick around and ran off "...Kovu lied to me. He told me he loved me. Instead, he was following Zira's plan to avenge Scar, he killed my father and forcibly took the pride... Acting exactly like Scar... A few of our lioness grouped together to take him down."

Kiume remained in the pridelands and he and Kiara got to know each other again. Kiara was slow to trust and even when Kiume made his feelings obvious Kiara didn't want to jump into anything. Kiume was understanding and allowed Kiara her time and space.

Kiara really did like Kiume, they were good friends. Eventually, Kiara allowed herself to try love again with Kiume. He treated her with respect and he did genuinely love her. He never asked for anything from her. Slowly Kiara found herself genuinely in love and made Kiume her official mate. Kiume didn't want to be known as King, it was Kiara's pride. He took the title prince consort, the official title used for the mate of the Queen. Kiara had just expected him to call himself King but was relieved that he didn't, Kovu had insisted he was King.

Eventually, Kiara fell pregnant with Kiume's cubs and he went out of his way to protect her, he took her cubs under his wing and took over giving royal lessons. Kiara was happy that her cubs had a father figure they could look up to and depend on, Apazi had even started to refer to Kiume as 'Dad'.
