Description My entry for Kirschpraline 's Stars and Constellations contest (kirschpraline.deviantart.com/j… ) featuring the Camelopardalis constellation (it resembles a giraffe).
Have no idea how this came to be, it's a bit different from my usual stuff. Let's just say watching Justin Kurzel's Macbeth did weird things to me.

Surprisingly, it actually won the contest!

beautiful contrast between the orange and the teals
and I can't help but adore how beautifully simplistic it is, this really is quite the lovely piece

Love, love the background! Is this acrylics?

I'm glad that you chose to portray one of those constellations that nobody really pays much attention to, but deserve to be looked for more often. I like all those drab little Dutch navigational constellations that are nigh impossible to find, but it's neat to know they're there. Fornax, the Furnace, Pavo, the Peacock, Vulpecula, the Fox.....not sure which civilization came up with the Cameleopard, though. I do know that the Greeks would say the nuttiest things about Africa...

I used acrylics, gouache and watercolours.

I think Camelopardalis was introduced by a Flemish astronomer in the 17th century, but it might have been around for much longer, who knows Everybody was portraying "popular" constellations for the contest, so I decided to try something different. For some reason I found this one particularly appealing! Like the Dutch constellations you describe, it is hard to find at night because the stars aren't very bright

Neat, mixed media.

So, I looked it up, and apparently the Giraffe is also Dutch. 1612. It sits between Ursa Major and Cassiopeia.

(Thank you for Collecting my work!)

You're welcome!
That's right. Petrus Plancius, the man who discovered it, was Flemish but moved to Amsterdam in 1585. I suppose that makes the constellation Dutch

Really? That's an interesting technicality. Would it be alright if I did something similar to this with another constellation sometime? I can think of a few that people should be made more aware of...
(I remember seeing Draco--fairly well-known--for the first time, and being awestruck by how staggeringly huge it was. The books always make them look smaller than they are, so when you finally see that a gigantic *space dragon* is visible from your house...anyway, nice talking to you. Thanks for visiting my profile. Just out of curiosity--what brought you there? How did you find me? It'd be nice to know what I could do to attract other Deviants.)

Of course! I'm sure many other people have already come up with a similar idea
I'm looking forward to seeing your version!
I found you while browsing Shakespeare-related artwork, your Macbeth cut-outs really attracted my attention.
They're lovely!

The movie was incredible! Beautiful scenery, great acting, lovely music... the actors spoke so quietly though that I'm glad there were subtitles! XD
