THE TREASURE CHEST!
Fear Not the Politician--whose arthritic hands
can barely jot down 'laws'--
never mind seize your throat.
They are not gods--
they cannot snatch your first born,
cannot make it rain locusts,
cannot hurl deadly poxes upon our houses.
Instead, they hide behind mahogany desks and well-starched suits
behind incompetent guards unsuited for combat.
Their deceitful melodies
are cracked by their raspy voices
that grow creaky with age.
They cannot defeat us
for their bodies will crumple into dust
--just like ours.
Dirge of the JesterThere once was a court jester named Pimm,
Who did not much like the life given unto him,
Cursed with a family ever so droll,
Our dear Pimm did elope,
Filled with vigor and hope,
While his family were eaten alive by a troll.
He found employ with a petty king,
King Rodric marveled at Pimms idyllic linguistic strings,
Pimm amused his court with elegant canticles and absurd dances,
He garnered attention from all of the court,
A fair lady did fawn as he did cavort,
Seeing our Pimms dramas as romantic advances.
The fair lady was alluring without compare,
But a dreadful madness her mind did ensnare,
Our clever Pimm her advances he did rebuff,

At the end of the rainbow, it’s said, there is gold
And you can attain it if you’re both brave and bold.
I beg to differ, I’m sorry, it’s true
But what’s at the end of your rainbow depends solely on you.
For some it’s a room filled with electronic do-dads,
For others a place where they can go creatively mad.
But for me, it’s quite simple, wherever I roam;
At the end of my rainbow is the place I call home.
For now it’s a room with two desks and a shelf,
Full of books and photos of dead baby and self.
A PC, a printer and things I must do,
A calendar, lights and some Winnie the Pooh.
Maybe one day my books’ll have some space to roam
And I'll finally have a library of my very own.
And one day, in the future, I’ll have a man and a marriage
And photos of children instead of a miscarriage.

The Mysterious Case of the Cat in the NighttimeJimmy bolted upright in complete darkness.
The bed was empty. This was nothing new. His unfortunate habit of complaining to Seth “Blabbermouth” Crey about the little irritations of his life meant that the newly crowned king made it impossible for his butler to keep a long term relationship with anyone, even his mother.
However, he’d felt a rustle in the covers beside him. Probably wishful thinking, he thought sourly, settling back into the covers with a sigh.
A moment of silence occurred.
“Mew.”
“AAAHH!!”
Something fluffy had squirmed up his shirt and he nearly bolted from the bed and set his shirt on fire trying to light a candle. Two green eyes peered at him from within his collar and mewed again.
He grabbed the cat by the scruff of its neck and yanked it out roughly. It gazed at him mournfully and pawed at his face feebly in an attempt to inspire release.
