Description ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 8/07/09 1:46am

What's new:
- I've added instructions on how to setup the weather meter
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 8/04/09 6:46pm

What's new:
- I've changed the wallpaper. And I love it.
- I've fixed a small bug in the weather meter.
- Google decided to lower their number of RSS feeds so I decided that, instead of having a bunch of blank space, I'd make the RSS meter smaller too.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 5/04/09 8:45pm

What's new:
- I've changed the wallpaper to be a bit brighter. This is because the previous wallpaper looked like crap when it's was a thumbnail.
- I've fixed a small bug in the battery meter. It was doing some weird stuff after taking my computer out of hibernation.
- I've also made the sidebar's top right corner rounded, per gschoppe's request.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE 4/28/09 7:05pm

What's new:
- I've fixed a small bug in the weather skin, where the forecast would go outside the background.
- I've also made the sidebar's top left corner rounded, per fediaFedia's request.

The Story
I recently came to the realization that I had many rainmeter meters running on my desktop that I actually had no use for. This was making my desktop look cluttered, as well as causing rainmeter to hog my CPU. So I took everything that I never used off my desktop and started working on creating a functional, as well as good looking, desktop.

Rainmeter Changes
- Since I am constantly using my RSS multimeter, I decided to double it's size, as well as add more "tabs"

- I like using my weather meter occasionally, but I realized that to make it fit with the other meters, I'd have to make it vertical

- I constantly keep an eye on my HDD space (so I know when it's time to "clean up") so I decided to design a HDD meter based off of the HUDvision HDD meter

- I realized that, although the calendar meter was nice, it took up too much room for my liking. So I shrunk it to fit with my weather meter and my HDD meter.

- As for the bottom bar, it's always visible so I always have access to my battery usage, programs, and time.

Question concerning the weather meter.
Is there any way to change the reading from to °F to °C?

Love the RSS feed and the background for it. A few small modifications to the code and the files and it's all good to go for my favorite feeds. Not such a fan of google's news service, for example, so I just changed it to BBC. Thanks, man!

How did you make the boxes slightly transparent? Do you need Vista Aero to do that or something? Thanks, I have to say this is a pretty awesome skin

teejay3 In reply to oranj456 [2009-08-08 22:37:34 +0000 UTC]

Well you can go about making the boxes transparent in two ways. You can either right click on the box and select "Skin menu" -> "Transparency" -> and then select the percentage of transparency you would like to be applied (I'm using 30%). Or you can directly edit the skin. You can do this by right clicking on the box and selecting "Skin menu" -> "Edit Skin..." To change the border transparency, go to the line "BorderColor=255,255,255" and add ",[NUMBER]" where [NUMBER] is how transparent you want the border to be. The number can be from 0 to 255, where 0 is completely transparent, and 255 is completely dark. You can do the same thing for the background by editing the line: "BoxBackground=0,0,0."

Oh, and I'm using XP so I don't think you need Vista Aero .

Hey, I'm a little confused.
I'm new to rainmeter, and I don't understand how to format the weather part so that it works.
Do you think you could explain a little more?

Here's what you've got to do. First, you must register with weather.com to obtain your own parter ID and License key. To do this go to: [link] and fill out the registration. Then you must fill out the 'XML Data Feed' registration. After that you will get an email which will contain your partner ID and License Key. Then replace '[PartnerID]' and '[License Key]' in the link found in the 'Weather.ini' file.

This used to be so much easier, but weather.com decided to screw us with the XML. I wish this was easier, but it's not.

Very nice. Good job!

Do you think you can provide me with a link to both wallpapers you used?

The cityscape and this field?

Thanks!

loving it m8, though I have 2 questions as i'm a total nab xD

1) How can i change the values from the weather forecast to °C instead of °F.

2) How can I add another HDD to the HDD Meter (I have a secondary disk which i'd like to monitor as well)

Very nice desktop. Just enough things to be useful, not enough to get in the way. I like the icon set on the dock, too.

Hey teejay3,
I wanted to ask you what kind of bar you have at the bottom of your desktop? Is it a stardock? Are those the standard icons or another DeviantArt icon set? Thanks.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

teejay3 In reply to integra891 [2009-04-29 00:25:56 +0000 UTC]

The bar at the bottom is composed of two things:

1) Rocketdock (for the icons/dock). You can download it here: download rocketdock .

2) Rainmeter (for the shadow, battery meter, and date/time). The most recent version of Rainmeter can be downloaded here: Rainmeter Download . Once you install Rainmeter, click the download link on my page here to download the skins that make up the bottom bar. To install the skins, unzip the folder here: "C:\Program Files\Rainmeter\Skins". Then restart rainmeter, right-click the rainmeter icon in the taskbar, select "Configs" -> "Urban" and then click the skins you wish to add.

As for the icons, they're from a set called ecqlipse2. That set can be found here: Ecqlipse2 download . There are other links on that page that will lead you to some other great icon sets.

Also, for some other great desktop customization programs that I use, check out this flickr post: ProjectSpace .

If any of that was too confusing, or you have any other questions, you can either post them here, or email me at: "tjmarkham3@gmail.com".

Hope that helps,
tjmarkham3

I really love the information bar, with Rainmeter anti-aliasing fixed it looks perfect!
Can you make one with a rounded top left edge? I think it'd look cooler as a desktop applet.

teejay3 In reply to fediaFedia [2009-04-28 23:10:02 +0000 UTC]

I was wondering if anybody would request that...mainly I was thinking about it myself

I changed the top left corner of the sidebar to make it rounded, but I left the top left corner of the RSS feeds alone. If you want that one changed too, I can show you how, but I'm going to leave it how it is for this Desktop.

i think with the sidebar, the top right should be squared, to balance the rss reader... the squared edge could be user selectable as any of the four.

I just updated the configuration to have the top left corner squared, I definitely like it better this way.

I also like your idea of the user selectable background. When I have more time I'll upload a version.
