got the 2000 kiriban on my page, and requested I draw Kabuto, from Naruto. I figured I might as well fit it into the Topics to Draw list I've been doing (for info on that, check out ~Kugen 's journal). The next one I was supposed to do was 004 - White Flower, but honestly, I couldn't work a white flower into the idea of Kabuto anywhere, so I skipped ahead to 006 - Smile, which, I think you'll agree, fits him better. If you're, say, not very far along in reading or watching Naruto, you *might* think the "Soft and Peaceful" catergory that "Smile" is supposed to be in fits ... why don't you just go on believing that for a while, hm?
Kabuto sez: "You want to know what the nin-card says, don't you? Of course you do. No, really, it's all right. You can trust me. Sure you can."
Done completely digitally from the first scribbles through refining the sketch to painting. Painter 7.0 with the occasional foray into Photoshop to clean things up or add light halos to highlights and so on.
[ edit ] I put a more-or-less step-by-step account here . It's a little light on the transition from color flats to fully shaded, but I got involved at that point and forgot to take screenshots.

I'm not sure. It's been long enough since I did the picture that I'm not sure I ever knew. I think I just copied it from the manga or an anime screenshot.

O.O!! I know you! I met you at Animefest!!! I was the chick who bought Kabuto from you + that other chick's Ninja Soup/Orochimaru pic. I didn't wanna carry 'em around, so I left them with you (in Kankuro cosplay) , then forgot about them, then came to pick it up the next day in Gaara cosplay.

Thanks! I did the metal by putting dark and light stripes on it, then smearing them all over the place, then switching to s tiny brush to smear more and give it that brushed-metal effect.

I like this, very much coolness, and you know what those don't look like mountains to me! ^^ anyways, I kind of get the feeling that somewhere in the area of the way his face is positioned is a little off, when I look at it it just doesn't quite grab me as being correct, or if it was, it would be alittle straining for Kabuto to do that.
I have no idea who this person who you drew is by the way o.o;

I figured out what was wrong with his head after getting most of the way through the coloring (of course). The back of his neck and his head are too far back -- if you look at the progress of the piece at the link I gave, you can see exactly where I screwed up -- in the step where I was doing the inks over the blueline and didn't get the right line inked in. Decided it wasn't worth attempting to fix, since at the point I figured it out it would have required way too much repainting.
You should watch Naruto. It's like crack, only animated.
