Thank you all for the kind messages you've given me the last couple of days. I was in a really bad spot, and I still kind of am, but I really did not expect so many people to genuinely care for my well-being. I also didn't realize how much my art affects some people's day-to-day lives. I saw my art as a very passable thing, of not much significance, especially in light of some recent happenings... but reading some messages the last couple of days brought a new perspective to me. I didn't realize how much happier I make people every day I post something new. It almost feels like I have this power now that I didn't know I had before. I'll probably still relapse into the feelings from before now and then, as would anyone, but I learned a lot.I'm going to try to reply to the messages I got individually as soon as I can.
Even if there are better artists, who have been able to achieve the things I wish I could achieve, or win the respect of artists I look up to, it still feels good to know that I'm still bringing smiles to some people's faces every time I post something new. It feels like an achievement in and of itself. It makes me want to draw a lot more, just to make people happy, and who knows where that will take me, someday?

Yes, that is the kind of mindset I always want to go for when making art. To bring cheer and happiness to the people who witness my art that will bring their spirits up.

I relate to a lot of what you've said here... and I just wanted to say that that little voice which tries to diminish all your accomplishments just isn't worth the listen. I know it's near impossible not to "hear" it sometims, but I hope you remember that it's a distortion of reality.

Please keep drawing. Personally, I love your work and I come to view your gallery often when I need inspiration. I love your work, and although I know how hard it is to keep from getting down about your art when you start comparing yourself to others, know that you're one of the few artists here that legit puts me in a better mood when I see a new upload.

Tem, your work really does bring smiles to my face. You have such neat worlds, colorful and entertaining characters, well-drawn art, all the good things I like about other artists. You really are better than you think. (A lot, and I do mean a lot, of people tend to struggle with anatomy, it truly is a difficult subject.)

I am a bit new as a watcher, but I may should say something, even though I usually pick the less personal art for a first comment since... I am new after all. In terms of artists that are specialized in anthropomorphic animals, I find your style does really stand out under the masses. It has a vital realistic cartoon style (by which I mean it is not the type of cartoon that can defy physics), uses whiskers pretty nicely, and you can make characters express themselves nicely. In addition, it is hard to find good artists that draw mustelids, which are my favorite group of animals.Β
And if we go to the realistic style you also do, I would say... it's pretty darn awesome as well. I would say that at your point there is no need for self-doubt, you are at a state where you close to the peek. Comparing oneself to someone seemingly better is not really what you should do, it distracts yourself too much from the joy you have while doing what you do, which is essential for a medium as personal as art.

Well, I didn't say anything on your other pic because I'm not really that good at writing longer or more thoughtful comments... 
I know how it is... I also compare my art a lot with people I admire, especially the ones who can draw humans very well. That makes me kinda unmotivated to go further than my comfort zone... Same goes to backgrounds, I've got so much to improve, yet at the same time I don't feel like working better on them.
You're one of the best artists I've seen here, and of course I get quite happy whenever something new from you arrives at my DA inbox.

As an artist myself, I've gone through such thoughts that clouded my head, and I've compared my own work with others at times. In the end, I'd feel like shit because it's not the same standard. However, I've learned that an artist has their own unique style, and that art as a whole is not a competition. It's a hobby that allows us to draw and paint what we see in our minds and, in the end, the criticism and motivation we receive from our peers is what inspires us to continue taking up the pencil and brush.
It was Deems Taylor, the host from the movie Fantasia, who said that it's funny how wrong an artist can be about his/her own work, and there is a lot of truth to that statement. Your illustration work is more than just passable. It's amazing, and many people here share that opinion and don't want you to stop. Don't forget that.

You're one of the artists I look up to in terms of how well made your artwork is, I really want to be as good as you are, and I strive to be as good as you are. One day, someday, but for now, I'll keep an eye on your artwork, I'll learn from it, and maybe I'll grow as an artist to where my own artwork is amazing.

I hope you get out of your bad spot soon, I think we all have that little voice that either pushes us to be better, but sometimes drags us back down, and sometimes we suffer needlessly for it. It's good when others can give us the power to overcome that.
