I don't know about the author, but personally I think the prequel lost some of the horror when it used CGI rather than practical effects. It made it feel more fake.

I can agree with that. Still, it did a lot of interesting things like explaining how that place was wrecked in those key areas.

Aw man, The Thing is one of my favorite movies ever, so I can't help but love this. Your painting technique is excellent here! The moisture effects are especially great.
