Description A long time ago in a galaxy far away... I asked Casf if Skye would join me in a coconut smacking game!
Well, Casf said he would and I have finally drawn us playing together! What better way to celebrate summer break then by launching coconuts twards the horizon on a beautiful beach.
--It is Skye's turn to hit in this picture as I hold the soon-to-be-launched nut. --

Anyway, I started this picture many weeks ago and I thought I would have it done extremely fast for once. Then I had to hurt my arm really bad and it has been a long time since I was able to complete this picture. I spent much more time then usual trying to improve anatomy, perspective, and lighting with this picture and I am somewhat pleased with it. I am not completely safified with the backround, but it is much better then my last beach picture! I think I did a fairly good job drawing Skye in a mixture of my Style and Casf's. He does not look out of place at all. I wonder what I would look like next to him in one of Casf's pictures.
Hopefully this will finally give me a reason to drag Casf to my page and view my recent art or talk with me more. I could not bring myself to force her to view my old gift I made her now that I could make a much better picture. See any improvement Casf? It has been so long that I would hope you see some. I still could add more detail, but I have worked on just this picture for so long on this that I have lost most drawing motivation and you probably will not notice too many mistakes or things I forgot.

This picture makes me miss the ocean, I went to a real beach once and it was really fun. Oh, as usual I used a canvas that is probably too large for DA to show in full view, if you see any blur then try downloading the full size picture. It really makes me sad when half my details are too blurred for you to see on DA and this picture has lots of tiny details.
Well I hope you like it! Next we can go swimming, but I am sure Skye is better then me at that. I don't know about Coconut ball though....

(I will unleash evil high-fat-content butter beaver army if Casf forgets to see this picture)

Skye is copyright property of *Cynder-and-spyro-fan and Terreflare is me. If you steal him or me I will eat you!...(my leagal advisor says I can't really do that, but I will at least report you!) I satyed up all night completeing this so please ignore any huge art mistakes or description typos/rambling

whoaaa ;;; you... try so much on scales.. I TOTALLY LOVE The scales and shading on the parts of Skye's markings!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF! It makes it look so realistic O______________O yet, fantasy realistic and that's JUST the realistic i love! 8DDD! <3 AMAZING!
this looks like a painting on paper *O* ~

Like painting on paper? I have never even used paint before... Well I am really glad you like how it turned out! I was trying to show how much more I have learned and improve upon my first coconut golf picture. It doeas not feel like long ago at all when I was drawing pictures that now I feel a little ashamed of how simple they were! All I did was spend tons of work shading every scale, blade of grass, and other details that no one would ever normally notice. Turns out there is always more detail that can be added to digital art, so only my patience determines how they look. I still think your pencil drawings and sketches look better then my digital drawings. I spend so much time that it completely hides how new and bad at art I am still. Maybe some day when I feel less like a squid in summer, I could try a colab where you make a sketch or lineart and I could try drawing tons of scales and details! We could have a group pic with Skye, Asin and me all doing something! No idea what though.
Wait, how did you find my picture! You are not randomly looking at my page are you?!

I bet you're thinking "Finally, she saw it! " because seriously, I took so much time to look at it Let's make up for it with a long comment...At least I'll try.
Now I feel even worse for not looking at it just when you uploaded it, because this is win win win win win! I love the perspective so much here >w< I think Coconutball will be an official sport for dragons It looks pretty fun after all Also I love the scales here The shading on them is so good-looking, must have taken a few hours to make Plus all those details in the sand, the water and...OMG, a casfishrimp! GASP! *goes to catch it*
Back to the details again, I love those eyes! The reflection in them is epic ; Especially for Terreflare's, and the shading is just great too it looks awesome! I also really love how you coloured Skye's markings, it looks so shiny 8D

Anyway, this pic is really great! The characters and the background are really well drawn ~ It looks epic I'd say this is your best picture yet, it's really great!

Oh and... *gets a shield to protect herself from the evil-high-fat-content beaver army attack*

YayZ!!! I am so glad you finally came! After I posted this you took your DA break and while waiting my bever army all had heart attacks. Next time I will employ beavers with healthy BMI's so they will last longer.

This comment shall make my day! I spent weeks drawing all the details and for some reason after all of that I did not feel like drawing anymore untill you were able to see it. I have also been way to obsessed with playing Istaria online as a dragon character. That game is really fun, have you ever played it before?

Well, I thought the eyes did not turn out as well as the picture before, but the markings on Skye were on of my favorite parts to draw! (I actually forgot them untill all the scales were already drawn I ended up coloring it on each scale to make it look like that.) In fact, I tend to add a rediculus amount of tiny details that no one can see unless downloading the full picture. I even hand shaded each blade of that thin grass, but it is too small to even see. I just have to much fun to stop drawing when I start, and a hard time starting.

Well I am really glad you like it! We will soon have the world playing Coconutball!(At least everyone that does not get injured hitting a coconut) Well if you want you could look at some of my slightly older pictures since I believe it had been since last year that you have visited, but this is the most important one for you to see and I can now move on to thinking about my next picture! I hope we may have more time to talk on DA in the future!

You are only one year younger then me now?!? Either I completely lost track of time and forgot my age or it has always been like this, I had always thought you were a little further then my age for some reason. I hope you had lots of fun and will have fun at the fireworks on the 13th! I love fireworks and we usually have them a day early on July 3rd here.

Cameo reminds me of the slang form of camouflage. It would be hard to get me blending in with nature here when my scales are so shiny. Well, this is unrelated though.
Is there a greek name for "C" If there is then your avatar would look like "Delta,(word for C),epsilon", but I am fairly sure the third greek letter was gamma so there is likely no greek "C"
Oh noes! I am on an off topic spree!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Terreflare In reply to 1Ace1000 [2011-06-05 08:31:14 +0000 UTC]

Good luck keeping me on topic! Well, if you do put me in a comic make sure my scales are nice and shiny! I won't attract many dragonesses with dull scales. Odd, my spellcheck say the proper form for a female dragon is "dragonet" and not dragoness. How interesting...
Anyway, if you do use me in a comic try not to make me look bad. It is hard enough to squeeze respect from some of the young humans as it is, if they thought I was as green as a hatchie they may never listen to me. Ah, but either way it may be hard to get Casf's permission to use Skye while she is on her break. Well, tell me if you do decide to cameo us. Isn't cameo also what they called them small ivory or tortoise shell carvings of heads they put on necklaces? I can't remember...

What do you think would be a good decorative tile for a lair, obsidian or a nice banded marble. Obsidian is smother, but scratches easy and is dark, while the marble would probably be tougher. Perhaps obsidian would make better walls. It would probably stick to them if I heated it. Oh well, there is only sedimentary rock where I live anyway, but I can always dream. Volcanic may be nice hard and smooth but would take forever to dig out the rooms. What is your favorite mineral? I think mine is Bismuth, forms the most elegant crystals really. It is too fragile for floors though even being a metal and far too rare on earth for large applications.

Thank you! I have been working a lot on drawing good scales. I watched Casf to see how she draws them, but I think my style is still different somehow. It is one of my favorite parts to draw in my pictures for some reason. It is still challenging to make them flow in the right directions especially on me in this picture since my pose has me and my legs upside down at times. They really make the picture look nice and help hide my sloppy shading.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Terreflare In reply to Vrani [2011-05-25 21:13:50 +0000 UTC]

That is because of the scales! I can shade quickly on the body and the scales will hide the sloppy lines. I have to be much more carefull with the parts of the body that have no scales since they will show sloppy shading more. I wish I could learn the comic cell shading style others use, but I can't seem to do it. I suppose that is just not my style. I sometimes wonder how my pictures look without my artist's bias. I think they look good, but when I look back on pictures I made a long time ago they look rather sloppy when I had thought they were nice. Oh well, as long as I keep improving I will always get better.

I think I hurt my wrist and my arm like that. I really twisted my wrist and hurt my elbow so bad that it would not bend fully for days. It is really odd not being able to touch your head with one arm. My wrist feels better now, but even after two weeks my arm is very weak. I can not lift near as much and it is shaky when I try. I am getting pretty good at lifting with my left arm now. I think I bady bruised or tore up some of the muscle when I landed. I am still glad I did not break my arm, if I landed any other way I probably would have. I am sure in a few more weeks I will be perfectly healed up and lifting stuff again. Too bad I do not have a job, it would be fun to get paid disability and sit around all day. I hurt my rear once, I fell backwards and hit my tailbones on a big sharp rock. I could barely sit down for weeks. I hope your tail and wrist heal up fast!

Well life is quiet and dark since it is past five in the morning. I need to get to bed now. Hopefully you just twisted your wrist and the joint is just sore still. As long as it is not broken and all the muscles are attached it should heal up fine in time as the bruises fade and joint heals just like my arm is now. If I hurt my wrist too badly to play video games, make chainmaille, or draw I think I would go crazy. I seem to have the need to be using my hands at all times. Just not when I am sleeping I guess. I live in the American central time zone. It is annoying because the TV only mentions eastern times for shows and I need to move the times up an hour or I miss the show. Right now we are having a tornado infestation in America. A town near my grandma's house was hit with an F5 and it killed well over a hundred people recently. I think there have been over 500 tornado deaths this year. I live near a lake on a mountain side so it is fairly safe here, but I feel sad when I here of others deaths. I think most people die of high speed debris and a good set of chainmaille like mine would be all they needed to live though one. This year is setting so many tornado records, have there ever been tornados where you live?

Yep, I make some chainmaille things when I have free time. There are pictures in my metal working gallery if you want to see some. I also want to learn how to forge metal, but I have not felt like it since hurting my arm. With college and such a buisy summer I may not have much time. Terreflare In reply to Vrani [2011-06-02 20:06:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, I did see those two pictures you posted, but they also look like they were made with a character generator. I don't really have anything against using those, but DA policy says,
"Since these creations involve no true artistic effort and are entirely prepackaged the only location they may be placed is in your Scrapbook. Any generated, pre-packaged content found in any other gallery location will be relocated to scraps without warning."

I have seen other deviants posting pictures from that same generator and not being caught, but if one angry or grumpy person feels like reporting it then the DA staff would probably move them to your scrapbook and when submitting art there nobody usually watches scrapbook entries so it is hardly worth putting them there in the first place. Chances are people would not report it, but you would be better off trying to draw all of your own art. When you draw your own art you can still use other peoples pictures as templates, but instead of tracing every detail just use the parts you like and add your own ideas. After only a couple of pictures you should be able to start drawing with less need for references and be able to post pictures that do not need to give credit to any other artists. I know it is a whole lot of work and you may not like how the first pictures look, but there is no feeling better then knowing the dragon looks just right and unique. I know you can do it if you really try hard. Try looking through the free line art and dragon drawing guides and try copying the lines by sight without tracing as practise. It will help you memorize the shapes of the body and when you feel creative try changing things to make the pose different. Character generators are useful when you need ideas or you want to plan the colors for a dragon an quickly see what it may look like, but the best way to get fans is to draw all your pictures.
I don't like how pushy I am sounding here. I know that you have put lots of thought and work into how your characters look, but when you use a generator I can not really leave as much of a positive comment since there is no way for me to tell how much work you put into it or see if your art is improving like most other types of art. I am also a little confused about why they banned one of my favorite colorful plz accounts so it may make me a little grumpy. It followed all rules and guidlines as I intrerpreted them and yet it must have just bugged some admin or something to get banned for being too colorful... I am just worried that they made some new rules that could have my main account banned for making those when I have always thought they were harmless fun little icons. I don't know what I would do if I lost contact with all my friends here.

Well, if you need any help with art or advice I always love to help. You might want to avoid using my plz accounts untill I find what new policy puts DA against those things. Have you been doing good lately? I can see you have been working on your story. I would like to write a story some time about me, but I am too lazy to type a lot.
