Thanks, so much, Drayah! Gerda is very happy to hear this!
Your work in this round with Thalia was pretty impressive as well! In fact, expect some comments on her development, since the rush of the holidays and OC-Training is now over.

Definitely! Once I get some critiques finished, I'll definitely make time to comment on Thalia's development- she is an impressive character!
Take your time finishing the last three pieces. The important thing is that you take care of your obligations first.

Thank you so much!
Designing the dress was a challenge, but bigger still was the challenge of designing her headdress. Still, it needs some revision. But overall, so glad everyone in the group approves of Gerda's outfit for the Prom!
Thank you again so much- it was an honor and a delight to have you as a teammate this round!

Wow! Thank you so much, Amanda!
Believe it or not, but there were so many mistakes and erasing done, I thought the original paper for the outline was going to tear from so much erasing!
Settling on an exact design proved challenging, because working with such a broad element like Autumn posed so many possibilities. But at the same, attempting to keep its inspiration source accurate, it was a challenge to make sure the elements and theme could fit with the design of sarafan-like dress and the kokoshnik-like headdress.
However, there was supposed to be a headscarf covering her hair, but there will be revisions made in future illustrations, esp thanks to the awesome NewSea-ANother for helping with some fantastic references!
Anmanda, thank you. Thank you so much. It means so much Gerda has become one of your favorite characters! Thank you! Thank you so much! She definitely appreciates your appreciation!

Thank you so much, Anna! Your comments mean so much!
Really, it means so much that you find Gerda looking like a tsarevna from a Russian Fairy tale- that's a great honor to heart this, because much of Gerda's human world and overall design is inspired by Russian Fairy tales.
Yes, it's canon to her story, she takes on a vital role with Autumn and harvests- expect more development as her story is released later this month.
Or you can get spoilers now if you like- it's up to you!
Yes, she was supposed to have her her hair and neck wrapped in a scarf. Even though she is a widow, she should still technically cover her hair. But at this point in the story, Gerda is another world, not governed by human rules. But nonetheless, Gerda is shy and prefers to cover her head- it makes her feel safe since she feels it sort of hides. In the human world, when she married, she also liked covering her head because it obscure the fact she has red hair, and in her human world, Gerda learns the hard way that red hair is considered an ill omen among humans.
I did want to ask- in Russian folklore, is red hair really seen as negative trait? Is this only in folklore? Or was it applied in society in general?
---
Also, a HUGE question I have been quite nervous about it- Gerda's human world (and part of the other world she finds herself in) ins largely inspired by Rus designs and atmosphere. (The other inspiration is a sort of mythical Nordic influence.) Do you feel this culturally appropriating, since this IS Fantasy, or is it all right because it is Fantasy?
---
Also, expect a redesign of this with her hair and neck covered, it was just so hard to draw her design right for this, I kept failing at covering her neck and hair for some reason. Will alter this in the future.

You're welcome!
I think I'll wait a little I have some small guess, but I think it's too early to tell.
I did want to ask- in Russian folklore, is red hair really seen as negative trait? Is this only in folklore? Or was it applied in society in general? Some sources say it was, I've even read that even Peter I himself forbade the redhead people to hold public office and testify in the courts, but I've never found the actual decree about that.
Also, a HUGE question I have been quite nervous about it- Gerda's human world (and part of the other world she finds herself in) ins largely inspired by Rus designs and atmosphere. (The other inspiration is a sort of mythical Nordic influence.) Do you feel this culturally appropriating, since this IS Fantasy, or is it all right because it is Fantasy?Since you don't directly claim it to be the certain real world culture, it's only inspired by it, it's okay! Also you don't seem to include any offensive or anachronistic stereotypes
As for redesign, I think you may keep everything the same but add a headscarf atop the headpiece, kinda like this or maybe this

Thanks again!
Ah, certainly. Thank you so much for showing interest and following Gerda's development- it's much appreciated!
Thanks for answering the question about red hair- it seems most societies where there is potential for red hair, it seems it's viewed as auspicious or negatively.
AND A HUGE THANK YOU for clarifying the appropriation matter- I feared appropriating too many elements from either culture, or combining them might be seen as offensive. But as you say, it's only inspired.
However, for further reference, what are some elements/motifs/concepts I should stay away from to avoid appropriating Rus culture? In your opinion, what do you want or not want to see in a fantasy tale taking inspiration from Rus culture?
Ah! Thanks so much for these references! This would be a great element in the redesign! Thank you!

You are an amazing help, and you've done so much, really, no words can thank you enough for all your help and patient guidance. Thank you!
Thank you so much for explaining stereotypes, sharing actual facts, and providing accurate truth about misconceptions and historical events.
Ah!Thanks for letting me know! These stereotypes ARE INCREDIBLY annoying, if not downright offensive. To add to the list of annoying stereotypes, would be gopniks, Adidas clothing worn by hooligans, and dangerous or really WEIRD traffic accidents caught on car dashcams. (Or at least what's been shown on the internet.)
But yes, given the fact that Gerda's story is taking inspiration from an equivalent of Early Medieval era, there's no chance whatsoever these things would ever appear. Ever.
But in your view, what would be some elements to avoid from the Medieval period? Religious/church is one thing, and given that Gerda's world is fairly pagan-like, there's no chance at all of anything like a church or anything hinting at Christian ideas. On the other hand, what would you like to see in such a fantasy setting? The mixing of Norse elements, does this seem too much like a cultural "Chop Suey" (like the animated Avatar using all sorts of Asian cultures for its inspiration, ranging from Indonesian to Tibetan sources), or since the Norse elements are primarily relegated to the Other World Gerda goes to, does this seem all right?

That's an ultimate relief.
Thank you so much- you have no idea what it is relief it is to hear this doesn't seem wrong, and that it seems original.
