I used 3D Studio Max to render this piece of work. I use it at work, but I've done the self teaching thing and went through a lot of tutorials on the net.

I just found out that Discreet/Autodesk, the people responsible for releasing the 3D Studio Max program, offer free software to students, here is the link to that:

Hope this helps out, and good luck. I've been learning for about 8 years now and i still don't know most of the applications available in 3D Studio Max (Don't have much time between my day job and freelance work).
