Poor toy - poor kid who had to leave him behind. He's lying on that mattress lost and exposed, like on an operation table. And so dirty and rundown looking! Good idea to include that rubble beyond the doorway. Creates that atmosphere of abandonment, while the toy is singled out as the main subject by the empty area of the mattress. The lighting looks cool here! Did you work with extra flash, or just the light available in that abandoned house?
And BTW how do you get into all those abandoned houses?

Thank you very much for another insightful comment. I never, ever use flash - I just worked with the natural light coming in from the windows. And these houses usually don't have any doors in their door frames, so you can just walk in. This one was actually missing a good portion of the front wall, so it was even easier.

Haha, I guess if part of the wall is missing, there is lots of light available inside
I've seen some abandoned houses here, but there's all locked and boarded up. In fact, I have some outside photos of one abandoned house in my gallery, but it looks just too dangerous too climb in through the broken roof.

Yes, but the part of the house near the hole in the wall didn't really have much worth photographing, so I was still mostly working with the light coming in through windows in other parts of the house. A lot of abandoned houses around here are boarded up too, or are on private property within view of people's homes. I'd love to check them out, but it's probably not worth the risk. I think I have enough shots from inside abandoned houses as it is.

This image makes me dramatically uncomfortable and reminds me of specific dreams I've had in the past... or should I say, nightmares. Now this isn't completely all that scary, but to me it is.

haha, Well the thing is it brings up emotion/memorabilia in my dreams which I never get, and it makes me remember them which I do enjoy very much even if it makes me uncomfortable. : )
Kind of like wusabi peas. You can't stop eating them but they make you cry. xD
