Description Here we have my third attempt at photographing star trails. This was a 12 minute exposure taken at a friend's camp at Canoe Point on St. Joseph Island in July, 2005.

Hot pixels proved to be a major problem in the darker areas of this shot, and so I had to perform some extensive noise removal, both manually and with automated software. This is why the sharpness might be a bit lacking in some areas of the image. Still, given the extremely poor quality of the original image, I'm quite happy with how this turned out.

very nice!

just one question

how did you removed the hot pixels? in my try to do star trail the pic became full of red, white and blue dots =/

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tfavretto In reply to duwr [2007-08-14 00:53:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. And I had the same problem, but I just zoomed right down to the pixel level and cloned them out one by one.

O.O
Only 12 mins and such trails?! I thought that photos like that need like 4-8 hours of exposure!
Cool, better try something like that myself
Great photo, btw!

The longer the exposure, the longer the trails, but it only takes a few minutes to capture some movement. Thanks for the .
