I would like to start carving myself but I have zero experience. Do you happen to have some kind of tutorial or tips on where and how to start? Like for example the best (cheap) kinds of wood to start on, do you draw it first or you just go at it... ?

Thanks. No tutorials. Pick up a knife and start whittling. There are many classes and videos out there on how to carve. Carving tikis is just an extension of the skills I've learned whittling. Be careful and keep the blade pointed away from your skin. Bass wood or Balsa is the standard wood for beginners. You can find it at most hobby shops. If you have a wood workers store near you, stop in and ask questions - most places won't charge for advice. Good luck.
