i will also add a faq here that should be updated with new notes now and then

mittens are a completely open species, however they should not be used for commercial use (trademarked media) in any way! they can be included in personal worldbuilding projects or with other personal OCs/species (:

disclaimer: any similarities to other original species is purely coincidental, anyone else is still free to make their own moth/cat hybrid creatures and i 100% do not claim to own this idea! these were made purely because people thought one design i made was super cute and i love rules and worldbuilding so made them into my own little thing for fun

design rules:
- eyes must not have whites or pupils, they are just big shiny orbs
- their ears are actually small holes on their heads, they only sometimes have extra mane fluff that resembles cat ears
- must always have antennae, moth inspired wings, and a mane of fur around the neck
- tails must resemble that of a cat (can be any sort of cat)
- must be fluffy! a naked mitten would simply be too cursed
- can have simple mutations such as split tails, extra long whiskers, or multiple eyes
- they do not have noses
- always feral, they do not have an anthro form and are strictly animals

general questions:

Q: can i make mitten adopts?
A: yes! you are free to make adopts, YCHs, OCs, and bases for mittens!

Q: can they be ridden into battle?
A: in theory yes but they would probably cry since they're generally a timid species

species specific questions:

Q: can mitten anatomy be changed?
A: there are some general rules (eyes must be flat with no pupil or sclera, no actual cat ears, etc.) but they can be changed to fit certain styles!

Q: do they have to be based on actual animals?
A: sort of! there are no colour limits and their anatomy can be more fantastical (split tails, plant growth, magical elements) but their general appearance must be based on both cats and moths

Q: what size are mittens?
A: they can range from a tiny housecat to larger than a tiger! their adult size upon hatching is determined from what moon phase they were born under (the closer to a full moon the larger they will be)

Q: can they wear clothing or accessories?
A: yes! mittens are fairly intelligent and wear all sorts of things (though fitting anything over their wings and manes might be a challenge)
