Description I put nearly all my free time over the course of two weeks into making this, on some days working up to 9 or 10 hours straightΒ Β
The guy I like invited me to his place around Valentine's day, and since I live so far away he offered to pay for the trip. So this piece is part gift, part compensation for that The name 'Slipper Thief' comes from a joke we made. Since almost all my bigger felted works have at least a bit of my blood in them (I'm always stabbing my fingers), he decided I must be using some kind of blood magic there, and I said it will now come to life every night to hide all the slippers in the household xD

Needle felted on wire armature (fully poseable) with polymer clay spikes. It's the most detailed anatomy I've ever made, especially its tiny arms, although it may not be seen very well on the photo. Design by me.

A beautiful design, I love the extra pair of arms! I love your fantastic creature designs, you never go over the top like some people do, trying too hard to be creative. Your designs are very tasteful, and even somewhat realistic and the story behind this little guy is fantastic, oh those poor slippers

Thank you so much for thinking that I just try to design creatures that I think look cool or cute
"Sad" thing is I'm now living together with the guy, and the Slipper Thief is here also.. I'm keeping my own pair in the closet, away from anyone who have no business with them xD

Wow, I love the design of this creature ! And the story of his conception is quite cool as well
I really like that creature though I could see it take life in front of me ^^

Thank you When I made the first sketches, I didn't even know myself where I was going. I thought it was funny at first, but he liked it

Wow!! How long have you been needle felting?! I've learned to sew, crochet and work with clay but needle felting is always something that has completely baffled me! Β This truly is an awesome piece!!!

Thank you I've actively been needle felting a little over two years I think, although I first got introduced to it in 2009 or 2010.

It's just amazing! I think I'd worry about poking myself too much to do it because I used to poke myself constantly when sewing! Did you use wire for inside of it or some type of armature?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThatKiku In reply to ClayfrommyHeart [2016-02-24 16:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it has wire armature and is therefore fully poseable. But it also helps get the proportions right
As for poking, well... Haha, I used to have all my fingers full of holes, I guess I have better intuition now to avoid hitting them, though it does happen sometimes. But whenever I would go to shower or otherwise get my hands wet for some time, all the poking wounds would become visible, even healed ones from long time ago that I wouldn't see otherwise. And let me tell you, there were as many as a strawberry has seeds xD I got used to it in no time and hardly even noticed. ..Unless I stabbed too deep o_o

Ugh! I can imagine! I used to hand sew all the time! Nyanko is hand sewn. So is my giant toothless and a few other plushies I tried making but got too frustrated with to continue!

I like the idea for the wire though! I can imagine it helps quite a bit!

It's worse when I use force.. like I did once with my thickest needle. I was more like hammering it to get the job done faster. Until I missed and hit a bone joint in my finger, right through a vein that used to be seen under my skin (it isn't anymore xD). My finger was blue and swollen for some time but healed really quickly.
.. sorry if you didn't want to hear that xD Needle felting is still fun!

The wire also helps break more needles They're fragile as they are, but with wire I have to blindly avoid hitting it.

Oi!! Β That had to hurt!! Wow! I had no clue the needles were that fragile!!! Β Do you wear glasses or something to protect your eyes?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThatKiku In reply to ClayfrommyHeart [2016-02-24 23:12:11 +0000 UTC]

They're super fragile, especially the smallest sizes that are for more detailed work, or to remove the huge holes the larger needles leave behind. I sometimes break three or more of them in a day. Sometimes I'm lucky and get to work with one for weeks It used to be a lot worse, but I guess practice pays off and my hand subconsciously knows how to hold one so that I don't break it as easily I do wear glasses, but because I have bad eyesight. Needle felting specifically don't require a pair. I don't think I've ever had the end fly off.. usually it gets stuck in the wool and stays there (sometimes it breaks inside the felt doll and there's no way of getting it out, and I just leave it there xD)

And yeah, it kinda did hurt Β

Lol I only ask because my eye doctor was on me about wearing them while working on projects because he didn't want pieces of anything breaking and flying towards my face lol. Nice image lol.

Well that's good at least! Practice makes perfect!

I hope then my glasses will prevent any damage if anything should happen

Yea! When he said that I was like "really?! Nice image" Lol I get what he was saying but it was still just a weird way of putting it!

I used to have a crafting teacher in 6th to 9th grade that would always say that everything sharp would fly into our eyes xD Point taken, yes, but it was funny hearing it over and over. Especially with sewing machines! (If our hair would get too close to the needle, it could mess up, put the needle under pressure and break it off. Luckily it never happened tho!)

Lol I have once though I think it was because of a car accident? Not sure though but still! I'd hate to know what a kid would do if they heard that!

Yeah, in fact I'm really sensitive to all blood and gore. Even the word vein actually makes me cringe a little inside xD

That reminds me of a time when I had blood taken from my finger and I almost fainted because the woman who took my blood literally didn't want me to look away. I turned my head and closed my eyes and she was like, "No, watch it, I will only take until it fills to this line here. Watch it!"
Why?
Gods, why?
xD

Ugh yea... I get some nurses are just trying to make you feel better but honestly, when I'm about to get bloodwork, I want to retreat into my mind and think about something awesome... Not be drawn back to reality.

ThatKiku In reply to ClayfrommyHeart [2016-02-27 17:07:54 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Especially since it's the worst when they take it from finger. I can feel how they're pressing it and all.. ugh, I'm starting to feel sick thinking about it ._.
