Description I think I might have the thing to help me get out of my art block.

I had been trying to find something new to draw outside of what I'm already used to. Rather than drawing a character or stuff from another game, I'm trying something different in terms of...technique.

I've been looking at Suda51's games lately. Very artistic in look, pretty stylized. One of those games, Killer7, helped me get started on track.

What I like about Killer7's style besides the fact it's cel shaded, is the use of gradient colors. The blending of colors is just simple in design, as it almost acts as a universal light source in most cases. Like running down a corridor, the colors and tone do not change, whereas in most modern games today, it would change based on how far you went from a light source.
I hope that makes sense, you'd have to watch a video of it in action.
Another thing is the lack of outlines. Kinda like Wind Waker. Only in Killer7's case, the gradiants and shading makes everything kind of blend and combine. It ends up looking more surreal than Wind Waker, and I find that rather appealing.

So what am I doing? I'm using that game's style as an attempt to expand my technique. I've really been far simpler in use of colors and shades, and I think this can work as the next step up.

My first piece of this "Art Style Experiment," I recreated a bit of scenery from the prologue level in Sin & Punishment. The level already had a gradiant applied to the sky, and you couldn't really see the ground (actually, I don't think there was, just tall grass blades). Easy first step. The rest was trying the simple shading and lack of outlines to give it that cel-shaded look. I probably could've added alot more. Hey maybe I will. But for now, I want to put this up just to make a checkpoint on this path I make.

If this all works out, I might be able to draw some cool stuff with this style. I hope. This artblock has been killing me since October.

Hope you like it. Gonna keep practicing.

In the preview I thought about the S & P prologue level. It's nice, just a little suggestion: you should try to make the clouds...
