Description

So some of you may know my Sonic OC, the Cursed Guardian.

Well, recently I thought I should give a little backstory on him so I wrote up his origins.

Let me know what y'all think below in the comments.

Enjoy

"Come on, Tahk! Hurry!! They're catching up!" The young hedgehog runs furiously and a chao follows close behind. The two take an outrageous path, trying to lose their pursuers. They're too slow, though.
A weasel grabs the kid by the scruff of his neck. "Trying to make a break for it! You'll get punished good for this, kid!"
"Let me go! Let me go!" The boy struggles, but his efforts are futile. He is taken back to the camp and his wrists and ankles are tied up again and he's tossed back into his cage. Tahk the chao is put in another cage nearby.
A few weeks ago, these people raided a town and took him prisoner. Apparently someone rich is looking for servants for their palace and people looking for money have been itching to provide. His captors hope to fetch a good price for him, but he isn't really very keen on the idea of being sold as a slave. He's already tried to escape three times.
After this last failure though... They're supposed to be at the palace in two days time.
He leans back in his cage, feeling defeated.
That night he is beaten brutally and not given any dinner. The hedgehog lays in the cage, fighting hunger and tears, wishing he could go home. Tahk watches him sorrowfully.
Hours pass. The group starts moving again. Hours pass. It's lunch already. Hours pass. How much longer? Hours. Hours. Hours pass by. Then the cart hits a bump. The wheel breaks. Tahk's wooden cage falls to the ground and busts.
There's shocked silence for a moment. Then everything goes crazy.
Tahk is fast and a good flyer. He speeds around while people try to recapture him. Next thing they know, the little creature has grabbed a knife! He flies to the front of the group and the people chase him. Then he flies to the back before they can realize where he went.
Tahk cuts the boy's bonds and unlocks the cage. Then they run. The enemy keeps close behind them.

Faster. Farther. The two keep going, not sure where they are.

Suddenly the scenery changes. They seem to be surrounded by stones and beautiful flowers. A large, glistening pool with miniature waterfalls is before them. Ahead, a young woman stands, surrounded by smiling chao. The two have wandered into a graveyard and chao garden.

"Help!" the boy screams to the woman. Just as she looks up, the young hedgehog feels sudden pain in his back and chest. He stumbles forward for a moment, but then keeps running as the pain fades away. He assumes the adrenaline is keeping him going.

He reaches the woman and clings to her skirt. "Help me. Please miss, help me. They took me from home and they wanna hurt me!"

"They cannot hurt you now," the woman says, but her voice is strange. Like many voices overlapped. She pets his head gently, then straightens up and faces the boy's enemies who are now caught up. There is a collective gasp from them when they see her and the sounds of a scramble to get away. The boy dares to look and he gasps.

Ahead of him he sees the kidnappers. All terrified. On the ground, at their feet, he sees himself bleeding from an arrow wound and not moving at all, despite Tahk's attempts to rouse him.

He starts to tremble then looks up at the lady whose skirt he clings to. She is a cat with soft blue fur, and she would be pretty if not for her eyes. Her eyes, blank white and bleeding. Then he notices the white dress that she wears and sees this is also stained with blood. Quickly, he lets go.

The cat begins to walk towards the kidnappers, raising her hand towards them. "You should not have come here," she says loudly in the many voices. "You should never have come here and caused pain. Now you will be cursed." A white light flashes for a moment and when it is gone, so are the enemies. In their place, flowers bloom. One for each of the kidnappers.

Tahk remains beside the boy's bleeding form, trembling. The cat kneels down and pushes the chao back. She removes the arrow, then touches the hedgehog. A large blue crystal begins to grow around the still form of him.

He watches, terrified as this happens and confused about how he can be over there and where he is now at the same time.

The cat stands up again and scoops the panicking Tahk into her arms. "Is this your friend?" she asks the boy, who is still beside the pool.

   "Ye- yes," he stammers.

Upon seeing him, Tahk flies out of the cat's arms and towards the hedgehog. However, instead of the two colliding in a hug, Tahk fazes straight through the boy's body, much to their confusion.

The cat smiles sadly. "I have not much time left here," she begins as she approaches the two. The chao in the garden surround her again and all seem both happy and sad. "I shall try to explain briefly. You," she motions to the crystal with the boy's body, "have died. Killed by the people who took you from your home."

He stares at his own lifeless form in disbelief.

"Unfortunately you have been killed within the walls of this garden." A sigh escapes her. "Which means you, as I have been for the past 3561 years, are cursed to be the guardian of this place until another dies within the walls. My soul is now free. Yours is now captive."

   Speechless, he continues to stare.

"Hopefully you will be set free soon- ah!?" She doubles over for a couple moments. "The cold wind. It is pulling me onward. Your duty here is to protect the chao and the graves. You cannot harm anyone who comes in unless they cause harm first. You cannot kill anyone unless they kill first and- ah- if you kill someone it will not release your soul." She says the last bit hurriedly. "One must die in this place- ah- without your interference for you to be released. Do not worry. You will become tangible once I am gone. AH!" She goes still. Then slowly looks at him and smiles. The blood is gone and her eyes are normal. When she speaks her voice no longer sounds like many, but only one. Soft and pretty. "Goodbye and good luck child." She straightens up one more time and begins to fade.

"Wait!" the boy exclaims. His voice is now overlapped and he hears hers in it. "Who are you?! I don't want this! Please!"

"I can do nothing to help you. I was the Cursed Guardian," she says. "Now the title falls to you."

   "No! Please! PLEASE!"

In another flash, she disappears and he is left there with only the chao. He feels something touch him and sees Tahk, but then his friend flies away seemingly scared. The hedgehog stares at his life long companion, but another chao grabs the boy's wrist and pulls him toward the pool.

Upon looking at the water, he's seen his reflection and recoils in shock. His eyes are blank, pure white, and they are bloody. He looks down at his chest which is also stained with blood from where he had been shot.

"Oh my gosh," he mutters and his voice is normal again. "I'm dead. I'm a ghost. I need out of here. I need out of here!" He gets to his feet and runs full tilt back to where he entered. He sees the vine covered walls that he had missed before and sees the open gate. He runs and runs and runs and then-

   SLAM

He hits an invisible wall falls backwards. It doesn't hurt. Nothing hurts now. He stands up again. The boy begins to hit the force field with all his strength, but to no avail. He starts screaming, but no one outside can hear him. For hours he continues.

   Then he gives up.

He slumps against the field, sobbing. After a moment, he feels something again.

Tahk has approached him and is now climbing into the hedgehog's lap. The other chao also surround him, offering comfort.

Night falls and the dead boy, now cursed, realizes that he can never escape.
