Description I was going to do a photo comic with Prowl today, and saw this issue with his wings. So we did this comic instead. Jazz talks about the problem over here .

Part 2: [link]
Part 3: [link]
Part 4: [link]

Also, if anyone has a for-parts Prowl with intact door wings that you'd be willing to sell, send me a note please? I don't want to cannibalize an intact Prowl, but if anyone has a busted one that's good for parts, and still has good doorwings, I'd love to buy him.

*is shaking with laughter* That's priceless...! Not the whole "Prowl's-doorwings-are-busted" part, but the "I-won't-be-handsome-anymore" part. That's good stuff right there. XD

I don't know if this works for you, but I looked everywhere and can't find any spare parts for Universe Prowl because he is considered a rare figure and anyone who already have him don't want to give him up.

I'm really sorry, the only other thing you could try is either try super glue, epoxy or scotch tape to try to tighten the ball joint and see if that works.

Hm...I'm not certain if anyone has brought this idea forth yet, but have you considered thermal plastic? You can get it in little strips at some craft stores; gets soft like clay when you put it in boiling water, and you can sculpt it to whatever shape you want. It cools to a slightly flexible, vert durable piece; can be easily painted, and can adhere with most glues. I used it to make ball joints and antennae for my Optimus bank, and they've held up very well so far.

Poor Prowl, I'm not sure what can be done. I don't know if you could use modeling glue to seal the crack or not. I hope that someone will be able to help you with a solution or with a parts Prowl.

I doubt they would want to deal with a cracked toy that's a few years old. Hasbro does have good customer service, but I wouldn't bug them with this.

Oh Prowl, poor baby. Don't worry, the internet will help you.

Have your thought about using super glue and carefully dripping some into the joint it self?

Good luck on your mission Jazz.

ShadowWolfsConsort [2013-05-26 21:31:36 +0000 UTC]

How are the panels hooked up to his back? Is it a small clip with a stem connecting to the ball joints? I don't have a Prowl so I'm not sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

The-Starhorse In reply to ShadowWolfsConsort [2013-05-26 23:41:03 +0000 UTC]

Yep. It's a ball-and-socket affair. It's the socket that's cracked, and I've had a few people offer suggestions for reinforcing it. I'm going to give it a try.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ShadowWolfsConsort In reply to The-Starhorse [2013-05-27 07:42:09 +0000 UTC]

Oh, well that's not as bad as I was assuming. I recommend using some hot glue or any adhesive that bonds plastic and a small clamp to keep it together as it dries. Then maybe a layer of clay inside to reinforce it (that might be overkill, though).

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

SnowFox102 [2013-05-26 21:05:49 +0000 UTC]

I'm going to post in more detail about this on Tumblr just because it'll be easier to post and link to things there, but for now I'll say that it looks like the problem is the socket, which should be easier to fix. Your earlier comment about clay makes me think that a rigid-curing epoxy putty may do the trick. I'll link you to some I've worked with and talk about it more on Tumblr.

In the mean time, give Prowl a hug and some Starbucks for me. Or maybe just the Starbucks.

The-Starhorse In reply to SnowFox102 [2013-05-26 23:30:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you SO much for the indepth comment over on Tumblr. I'm going down to the local craft store to see if they have any of the things you recommended. You're right in that it is the socket, not the ball itself, so hopefully one of your methods will reinforce it enough to withstand further comicking. I don't move his wings much on purpose, but the way his arms are set, his wheels impinge on his wings, and they end up being moved just through me posing him.

The poor guy. I'm definitely giving him some TLC.

SnowFox102 In reply to The-Starhorse [2013-05-27 03:13:30 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome, glad I could help. I hope Prowl feels better soon.

BTW, I saw a few suggestions of polymer clay (like Fimo and Sculpey) and figured I should warn you that the plasticizers they contain react with certain kinds of plastic. I've never had plastic actually melt on me, but I have seen it damaged by polymer clay, and I've heard other people say they had pieces that dissolved. Besides, even the ones with the lowest curing temperatures still require at least 250 - 275 degrees, enough to soften or slump most plastics.
