Description This is a gun I built. It used to fire .22 caliber rounds. I rendered it non-firing after a friend of mine informed me that building homemade firearms is a felony.

It's made out of a veterinary syringe, a heavy spring, and a chunk of .22 cal Ruger barrel. The build quality is excellent, the barrel threads into the syringe, and the whole thing can be dismantled by taking out a single screw.

I wish it still fired, it was a pretty cool little pistol.

Zip guns are entirely legal in the US.  Though if it's a handgun, the barrel must be rifled.  Smoothbore handguns qualify as "Any Other Weapon," and require a $200 tax stamp and registration.  If you cut rifling into the barrel, it's totally legal.  Alternately you can just make the barrel over 16.5" long and it counts as a rifle.  Cool build though.  Very clever use of materials.

You can build homemade firearms! (in the US, anyways.)
You cannot sell or transfer sell them without special licensing, and there are other rules to follow, i.e. certain types are not allowed at all (fully automatic, etc.) but it is legal for personal use.

My uncle, who is in his 60's, still uses a shotgun he built in metal shop (with a stock he build in wood shop) back when he was in high school.

Very nice job, btw. Beautiful.

The fabrication is wicked all the same. The concept will still reach out.

This is beautiful. In the United States, it is NOT explicitly illegal to build your own gun as long as it is for your own personal use/you don't sell it. Check your state laws, as that would be your main restriction.

If you live in California, you're out of luck. I think Texas is also one of the states that frowns upon home-made guns.

It's not a felony. You just need a tax stamp for it.

I don't like the government knowing that I have a gun, much less one I built myself. None of my firearms are registered, and never will be.

Why is it illegal? I feel like, so long as you are properly licensed (or what have you), and can get the gun inspected somewhere, it ought to be legal.
