Found out he also played Colonel Frank Simmons of the NID in Stargate SG-1 (recently been watching the series for the first time in almost 10 years). However, THAT was in no way a likeable character.

John de Lancie does a lot of things, and has been doing them for a long time; look at his IMDB page for details -- www.imdb.com/name/nm0209496/?r… .
There's quite a story around his role in _My Little Pony_. He was favorably impressed by the quality of the script, and -- unlike many successful actors -- doesn't scorn to take voice-acting jobs; so he readily did a two-episode appearance as Discord. (Lauren Faust was very pleased as well; she had expected to need to cast a sound-alike for Q, and wasn't expecting to get the man himself.) But he was busy with a wide range of things, and had completely forgotten his appearance in _My Little Pony_ by the time an online preview clip for _The Return of Harmony_ aired -- whereupon his house was mobbed by adult male fans of the show who no one had even told him existed. Gene Roddenberry, he quipped, at least warned him about the Trekkies...
