Description I'm posting this one for several reasons. First off, even though it did appear in my gallery before, only about six people ever saw it. Second, I needed something fairly nice to submit to .
This is watercolour, about 8" by 12". I like painting in monchrome because you really have to pay attention to the light and shadow. I always give away my FanArt. I believe this one belongs to .

Noodle isn't my character. If she was, I'd be really wealthy. She belongs to Mr. Hewlett.

Thanks very much! I painted all four of the Gorillaz in this monochrome style, but this one was my favourite of the bunch (the others can be found in a matted piece in my Scraps). I even made myself a T-shirt with this painting on it!

Thank you very much! As FanArt goes, I think I'm probably proudest of this one. I like to try to do things that are a little different from most of the other FanArt out there.

Thanks very much indeed! Yeah, this one's my favourite Noodle. keeps threatening to send me his address, but so far his parents have been thankfully hesitant about it, so in the meantime, I get to keep her in my studio.
Thanks for the on this one, too!

So pretty~

Great job. When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a screenshot from the FGI video, with the contrast adjusted. It's very accurate!

theancientofdays In reply to GuerrillaPop [2007-01-13 11:40:53 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much! I started doing these one-colour paintings as an exercise in "seeing" light and dark - so that I wouldn't be tempted to use colour as a crutch for shadow and highlights. This series of Gorillaz paintings is a little unusual because I didn't bother to gradually change the tone as I went along; I only chose three tones - black, white and grey. I think it keeps the cartoony effect in tact but makes it more interesting than just plain black and white.
I appreciate the comment!

Well, you must admit, she's got a pretty big fanbase there! Actually, as the story goes, she built the windmill island - it's kind of like a ship in the sky...

Thanks! She's a fun subject. My wife thinks FanArt is kind of base, but there are times when it's just a fun thing to do. Besides, my wife looks a lot like Noodle, so she doesn't mind these so much...

Thanks! Yeah, that fuzziness that comes with watercolour usually drives me blind spare, but in this one, I think it works pretty well. If it was a different subject or in colour, I probably would have gotten frustrated and trashed it.

Thanks! I enjoy these monochrome paintings because they're a great exercise in "seeing" the shapes and shadows rather than relying on the colour to do the work for me. I really have to concentrate more on the drawing in these, so they're good practice. I appreciate the kind comment.
