That's what she says! Thanks very much! It's a bit of an unusual style, but if I plan the painting carefully, they usually turn out looking like it's supposed to.

very cool! I cannot paint like that!

Thanks very much! For these, the sketch is harder than the painting because everything has to be in just the right place; it looks very odd if something's a little "out of place".

Thanks! These are pretty hard to do because I don't consider myself very good at drawing; the sktch has to be right or it doesn't come out right. I was really disappointed to learn that a similar effect can be gotten with Photoshop. Well, crumbs.

The same is true of pointallism...but I still do it anyway! There is always a certain feel to something handmade that a computer could never purely duplicate.

That's an excellent point! I'm glad they don't make computers with an imagination.

Thanks very much! It's an odd style for me because I usually paint following a really bad sketch. With these, I have to be really careful with the sketch and then I can just slap the paint on.

Thanks very much! The lady in the background is a member of my motorcycle group; the snap I used to paint this one from was taken at a meeting of our group and I decided I'd leave her in.

Not so - anyone with as many pageviews as you have must be taken seriously (unless their gallery is full of pictures of feet or stomachs).

That's what art's all about. Pushing the boundaries, and stepping over the clichΓ© and generic reproduction, i supposeeee.

I like it, it's quite impessive that you painted it by hand, most people just do these in Photoshop and other photography manipulating programmes, but I must say this is cooler. Also, your moustache looks fun

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to Elaihr [2007-08-30 09:38:19 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I didn't know until I'd painted a few in this style that you could even do stuff like this in Photoshop! I like to think there's something to be said fror doing it by hand, anyway.
Oh, thanks! I've had a whopping great big moustache for a long time now - I look pretty strange without it! Pepper hates it when I curl it up, though.

It is rather a good movie - I like the fact that they didn't take themselves too seriously. Serious "giant creature" movies usually seem pretty ridiculous; at least they started with the premise, "Okay, now I know this is ridiculous..."

Dabull04 In reply to theancientofdays [2007-08-31 16:36:22 +0000 UTC]

Yep a lot of people didn't like it, i think they didn't realise it was supposed to be tongue in cheek

theancientofdays In reply to Dabull04 [2007-09-01 06:58:13 +0000 UTC]

I'm usually guilty of not figuring that kind of thing out, but in that movie, even I understood it was all kind of a put-on.

I think the original tongue in cheeck horror of my time was american werewolf in london, the start of the big special effects and a bit humour

theancientofdays In reply to Dabull04 [2007-09-01 22:58:10 +0000 UTC]

That movie had some seriously scary moments! It was really unusual because it had a lot of really funny lines but some gross scary stuff, too. Great date movie.

Dabull04 In reply to theancientofdays [2007-09-02 12:36:24 +0000 UTC]

Yep and they've still come along way with special effects but it's still a classic

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to Dabull04 [2007-09-03 09:25:03 +0000 UTC]

You know, it's interesting you mention that - the special effects in Werewolf work really well because they realised the limitations and used the technology they had at the time to best effect; instead of "that's good enough", it was more, "that's the best that can be done". Made a lot of difference, I think.
