Description THE STORY SO FAR: Kobra Kahn had escaped from his cell at the Eternian prison of villainous henchmen, and was last seen making his way through the Swamps of Enchantment possibly a secret route to Snake Mountain only he'd know. Adam and Teela were already out on the Evergreen Forest when they heard Duncan's alert and Teela insisted they get to him first since they were closest, much to Duncan AND Adam's protests. As they flew over the terrain on their wind raiders they spotted Kahn in a clearing on the run, but so did he, and with snake-like agility he leaped up to the canopy in efforts to firing his acidic venom at them, damaging Teela's raider she lost control barrelling down for the swamps. Adam took the opportunity to land elsewhere and transform into He-Man before going after Kahn. He-Man could already hear the sounds of some kind of struggle near by and made haste to assist Teela only to find her besieged by some new friends Kobra Kahn seem to have made in the swamps, "putting her in a bit of a bind are you fellas' " He-Man chided as he went to pull them off Teela. Only his attempt at a timely rescue would be interrupted by Kobra Kahn, whom until now was hiding out of sight as he quickly knocked His Power Sword from his hand before he could react, He-Man would next attempt to simply lift the snake man overhead and launch him out of the way, only Kahn had another idea as his hood opened up spraying his sleep miasma right in His face. As He-Man quickly turned away trying not to inhale, he squinted to see Teela becoming a little too acquainted with the serpents' powerful coils...

Finalmente!!! This ten-ton gorilla of a project is done! And I feel an invisible weight literally falling off my back when I saved the final draft last night at 2am and again today as I'm posting it for the WORLD to see . I went with the updated title "Snake Pit" after the Mike Young Production episode of the same name, as it would look if it were a classic cover illustration like Earl Norem would have done (or at least me trying to re-create his style ). My only regret is not drawing He-Man's Power Sword but I just wanted this to be done with and move on to other projects, but my back-story explains his sword bring MIA pretty well I suppose ! I'll be moving the earlier version to the drafts section, thanks to everyone who commented and ed on it and looked forward to the final, your wait is over LOL! All comments welcome of course !

I remember this from a while back, a picture I meant to check out ...

And this is really good work. Β There is so much to love about this piece. Β You put a lot of effort into the details with just the pencils alone and then stepped up your game with colors ... and oh wow! the snake skins with the awesome texture.

Magnificent work! Β

Thank you very much (sorry for late reply, busy/distracted IRL) yeah this was my big ambitious debut on DA, all down hill from there in trying to better my technique. True story I was honestly going back to the original pencil work and ink lining it (not to mention redoing some parts I wasn't entirely satisfied with back when). Sadly that and many other projects I was either done yet hadn't gotten around to scanning or were close to being done all went up in flames 1 year+ ago, and I'd have to try again from scratch

BTW if you're interested, the original image model/pose I referenced for Teela was from a magazine ad for Drakan, a PS2 game I bought cause it was cheap but never got a chance to actually play it at the time (at least my brother did). That promotional model would have also made a good looking Teela cosplayer IMOΒ www.psygnosis.org/games/drakan…

No worries, my friend. Β

Mm ... I feel your pain there. Β While my skills are ok, I suppose, I sort of lost a bit of my desire to do artwork these days, thanks to a rather time consuming job. Β I think I just need to focus better, but don't we all?

Interesting to be sure. Β I do hope that you might get inspired to return to the work. Β It's rather stunning. Β

Umm, okay, I'm only slightly familiar with that show. Is it because the bad guys on that show look like the snake men? I definitely want to draw Kobra Khan again since I got his collector figure recently youtu.be/MoFylBybzZw . And I very much appreciate the

Thank you , Teela was always my favorite damsel in distress. I only wish we actually saw her get wrapped up in vines in that episode "Evilseed",instead of after the fact.

Thanks a bunch, yeah the coloring took months I recall (I was working off trail and error), and yet I was way too reliant on Photoshop shape brushes for grass and random plants, I'm actually in the possess of redoing this since this was from before I started inking my work before scanning it. I did the lines in Photoshop but looked a bit clumsy since I did em' with the mouse, plus I need to work on my color theory, especially with the trees, brown snake...mostly the browns, and lighting/shading! But I'm a scatterbrain and always drop something and pick up another project !

Impressive that you pretty much painted the whole thing, I must say.

I'd like to offer some advice for the future tho, if that's ok? I think you made something of a mistake in making the big snake closest to the viewer brown, as it sort of blends in with the bg, while the snake in front of He-man and Cobra Khan is a bright red colour.

I think, ideally you should have swapped these two colours, so that the snake attacking Teela will catch the eye of the viewer more. Keeping track of the focal point is tricky at times, especially with colourful characters like MotU have.

theblock In reply to Predabot [2009-07-19 00:27:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a bunch for the critique, appreciate it, you know, I've spent so much time concerned about how the trees looked I didn't even think that maybe the snakes' color would have clashed with everything ! I made one snake red because there was a red snake in the Filmation series I recall, and the brown one was naturally the one who attacked her in "Teela's Trial". Do you think switching those twos' color would improve the harmony of the piece? Also, do you think I should have darkened the tree trunks a little more and the foliage above

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Predabot In reply to theblock [2009-07-20 18:40:03 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, switching them would definitely help harmonize the image more.

Darkening the tops of the foliage, where they are thicker, might work, yeah. Just keep in mind that there would probably be light shining trough in a place or two in the foliage.

I think you should actually NOT darken the tree trunks. Bg objects can often be less colourful and lighter than the foreground objects. Your characters need to have the most contrast and be the most colourful of all, to really draw attention to them.

Make the trees less colourful, more grayish than brown, and lighten the tree behind he-man & Cobra Khan as well.

DocRedfield [2009-05-22 08:09:21 +0000 UTC]

yeah, you're definately getting somewhere with the textures and color schemes, so nice work there. Bolden and refine your linework, as it will also strengthen your colors, I think. Its a supercool piece of fan art, and Teela's colors are spot on, and I have no idea how you did that snake...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

theblock In reply to DocRedfield [2009-05-23 01:14:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's hard to do nice lines with a mouse, but I can't afford a Tablet right now so I might just get out the original pencil drawing and do the lines again in pen so I don't have to do it on photoshop. A lot of the background I just improvised without sketching it first, but now I can just add the foliage from the digi-colors on the sketch without using custom brushes. I know what you mean, the lines don't blend in very well now that I look at it again. The snake took forever and now I wonder why I didn't just draw the scales by hand on the sketch instead of drawing them on the mouse, suuuch a pain in the ass doing it that way . Thanks for the pointers, sounds like a good plan to you?

Thanks Michelle! Been wondering when I'd hear something from you about this (better late then never I suppose ), specially since I posted it like twice on the erotic she-ra group. that's odd, I sent it to the group in a message as an attachment. Must be too big or something, but fell free to put this in the photos section in the e-listas group and that they know it's by me

LotornoMiko In reply to theblock [2008-12-02 15:20:23 +0000 UTC]

Might have been too big. I tried sending a pic a while back that I shrunk down to something close to 700 kb in size and couldn't get it any smaller. It was still to big for elistas.

I'll have to see if there is room in the file section of the group first. Or we could always do a post with a link back to your da page! Get you some more traffic!

That's really great! Must be a lot of work with a lot of Photoshop-layers.
Love the big green snake... two coils around Teelas waist are a good beginning... come on, my green scaly friend, don't let 70% of your powerful body hanging around in the trees... use it too!! Bind the arms with 2-3 coils and one suffocating around her neck... the legs are not so important... let them squirm and wriggle... there are a good indicator to see when it is over!
