well since i've seen some of the tourney-folks postin the 2nd round pieces.. i figured i should too..my theme : 'medievil medical practices for the black death plague'
i decided to protray mine as a triptyche.
1st panel - depicts one method they used to attempt to heal the sick, which was by the bleeding of a person using leeches. Another method of bleeding a person would be by cupping the skin using a heated glass.
2nd panel - depicts the attire Doctors wore. The beak-like mask was filled w/ spices/herbs, thought to ward off the plague
3rd panel - depicts an infected girl, holding a posey which was used to rid the air of the foul smells of rotting corpses
the theme was definately a good choice.
Created this image lastnight.. before the deadline [my time anyway]

the style i did here is an idea i have planned for a new comic me mate and i are developing.

Hmmm so his blood was too high. That can mess with health. Though I think they probably tried to lessen the black bile rather than blood for the plague. Don't quote me on that.
Also purging black bile isn't as artistic as blood letting. Seeing them bleeding him into a cup woulda been cool too.
I know, all talking about humours and such and I never said anything bout the artwork. Good artwork. Like how the little girl seems like all her hope is in that little flower.

Utterly fantastic. Very dark and macabre feel all around. In particular I like your take on the plague doctor. Those beaked masks they wore just have such an eerie, malevolent aura to them.
You're just as talented in this area as you are with the Disney/Miyazaki stuff.
Also, I couldn't imagine a better visual accompaniment to the music I'm listening to right now (Reverend Bizarre's "The Hour Of Death").

wow this is very nicely done, the leeches are hard to look at they look very sick and realistic. Thanks so much for describing why they wore the beak like masks i never knew about them but i always thought they looked so cool but every time i try to research them i can't find anything! i wondered why they were called medicine masks. thanks so much, this is an amazing piece again!
