Description Finally beat Origins with Legam again. As said, I would do a fan art piece of him. Here's a bit of a rundown of my favorite fluffy mage in his new canon, to better suit events of DA2. This makes my older stuff, post-Origins some level of non-canon. Think of it as alternate universe, and this the canon as it now stands for the games.

Legam Amell, 9:40 Dragon

Over the years as Commander of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden, Legam becomes more accustomed to combat. More directly utilizing his knowledge of arcane warriors and battle mages, he modifies his staff by add a blade to the bottom - and thus more effectively attack darkspawn and other enemies who draw too close. His constant traveling and fights have taken away some of his pudge, but hours at his desk and research keep his body ever in a somewhat lightly flabby state.

These changes do not mean Legam has lost his soft heart. Indeed, the Commander retains a reputation of being fair-minded and empathetic, within reason. He simply makes difficult decisions more easily and has more experience bracing himself for battle. Even so, Legam prefers a quick wit and a clever mind to solve problems when possible - violence comes only as a last resort.

His work and Leliana's position as a seeker keep the lovers busy and often leagues away, rarely able to meet in person. They write to each other often, confiding in one another on paper when they cannot do so in person.

Sometime after the mage uprising in Kirkwall in 9:37 Dragon, Legam disappears. His whereabouts currently remain unknown.

I had fun playing with texture in this piece. Combined elements of old techniques with a few new twists. For his outfit, I based it off the mage Warden armor in DA2, but changed the front piece to display the Wardens crest. I also left out the studs in the padded armor. Partly because it felt tedious, and partly because frankly, I didn't like the look.

And yes, his beard is bigger here. It thickens ever so gradually with each point of XP he gains.

The scale mail texture was created by me; I might release it as a resource if anyone's interested.

I really like your attention to the textures, that gritty / thick look isn't easy to achieve.

Also kinda makes me want to install DA again~

Thanks! It's fun to play with textures. Done it before, but have been fiddling with it a bit more lately to see what effects I can do with them.

Originally, I'd considered putting Declan in too after I finished his Dragon Age 2 replay, but... I decided I needed a break from Dragon Age. xD I still love the games, but after Origins took forever for me to replay in between work and other projects, I decided I'd like to play some other game series first before returning yet again. So I guess if I do one for him in the future it'll be a solo piece like this one.

You deserve it! It's beautiful work, and it's really nice to see more of Legam The textures and the clean lines...he looks like he could come to life!

I think a solo piece for Declan would be great. Can't wait to see it, and glad you've been playing Dragon Age again

Come to life and toast darkspawn.

If I do it. It'll depend on if I play DA2 with him soon (I replayed it recently, before my Origins run, though) and if I'm in the mood. Doing some other personal projects at the moment, so my muse is prone to jumping around.

Ha, that's right! And Legam certainly looks ready for trouble!

Oh yes, there is always much to do... I'm glad you're working on several projects right now...it sounds like you're feeling inspired!

I am, in a way. It's a good thing. Main project is a biggie though (The Waracle poster thing I released a while back) and will be quite a while before it's done, or before I can release more information about it publicly beyond a bit of concept art.

The Waracle poster looks really nice! I love the bold coloring and designs on it. Looking forward to more on that as well!

Thanks. I intend to post up more art as the project goes on; I post doodles/unfinished concept art on my tumblr (linked in my journal) and the more polished stuff will go here, on my DA.

THE SKY BLOWS MY MIND!

This is great, you've gotten so good!

xD I think I'm happier with Legam and the rocks, but I'm happy with the sky too.

Hey, hey now - I was always good. I've just been playing around with different styles, as I often do.

But in all seriousness, thanks. I like how this came out.

Of course you were already good, but now you've somehow surpassed even that!

I think it's the shading and the lighting, it really pops! And yes, the rocks are great, too, its just the colors of the sky were really powerful to me. I want to see more in this style!

You take commissions right? Or maybe an art trade?

TheDalishRanger In reply to Techta [2012-11-06 16:04:42 +0000 UTC]

I know, I'm just teasing you. I'm always improving, as with any skill one continues to use and hone on a regular basis.

I might do more in this style - really depends on what ideas I have. My muse is like a five year old kid with ADD on a sugar high.

I do commissions, yes. I have a price list next to my journal on my main DA page. I sometimes do art trades with friends, but not right now. I'll usually do them if I'm having an artist's block or work is very slow.
