Description
The night was quiet, with only a small breeze to ripple the grass of the otherwise still world. The sky was a canopy of bright colors, stars and galaxy's in many clusters.
Two Wraiths lay on the vast expanse of the Elysian Field, back to back as they looked up at the stars.
A few meteor's streaked through the sky, leaving behind their blazing trails of light that last a few more seconds than they did.

The small, pale palomino colt sighed, nuzzling close to his Guardian. Illusion smiled, and his violet heart stone glowed softly in the cavity of his chest.
The stallion felt proud that he had been chosen as Ronan's Guardian. A profound empty space in his life had been filled; it was now nearly complete. Illusion was at peace for the most part, with Vasilli and Ronan in his new life.

"Illusion," Ronan asked in his quiet, little voice. Illusion turned his head up so he could look at the colt.
"Hmmm?" he answered, flicking his ears at a mosquito.
Ronan didn't speak for a moment, as he worded his question in his mind.
"Why are there so many stars?" Ronan rolled over to lie on his stomach, looking at his Guardian.
Illusion did likewise, and the colt cuddled into his side for warmth as the stallion thought of an answer.

"Ronan, I believe those who die in this world go to the stars, to watch on us forever. If you live your life well, you are granted the honor to live in the stars, to be bright forever." Illusion answered, gazing up at a particularly bright star, and wondering if perhaps his Neizmeth was watching down on him.
Beside Illusion, the little colt was struggling with his emotions and feelings, reluctant to share his burden but eager to be rid of it.

"Do you think I'll ever be a star?" Ronan blurted, regretting it when Illusion turned to him with a surprised expression on his face. The colt shuffled away to lie by himself, putting his face on his knees in shame. It was a stupid question! Ronan thought. A tear escaped his eye, and in a rush of anger, he spilled things he'd never wanted to share.

"My mommy and daddy didn't want me! They were mad because I didn't try to save them, they never cared about me anymore. I didn't deserve this second life, so why am I not a star, right now?" Ronan demanded, and Illusion was surprised to hear a hint of bitterness and remorse in the colt's voice. Small tremors shook the little colt as he cried, and Illusion rolled over to him, gathering his new son in an equine embrace.

"Ronan, you must not think of things like that!" Illusion said in a firm, but gentle tone of voice. "Your parents would have loved you very much, it is not your fault!" Ronan's sobs subsided, and he relaxed against Illusion.
With a sniffle, the colt raised his head, looking up at his Guardian. [b]"You think so?"[/b] he whispered, and Illusion realized no one had ever talked to this colt. He'd been holding whatever it was that had happened to him deep inside.

"Yes, Ronan. Believe it or not, I used to think the same thing. I didn't think I deserved a second chance, either." Illusion told Ronan, nudging his forehead affectionately.
The colt's eyes widened.
"So your not alone, son. We can do this, together." Illusion said softly, and Ronan snuggled back into his side with a sigh. "Okay, dad..." he whispered.
Above them, the stars still shone, a reminder to them both that life was precious, and only the strongest were granted a second chance.
The one's that shone as bright as the stars...

A story I wrote for Illusion and his new foal, Ronan.
Ronan was the unclaimed foal from the Cradle Snatcher mission, and he chose Illusion as his Guardian! <3

I love him so much, he's such a cute little guy. Ronan is mature for his age, and he went through a lot to find his second life in the Shadowlands.
