Description Medindriatic frog crab
Articulus comedenti pimpus
Size-
32cm, females
15cm, males

This species of frog crab is found throughout the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean. The two areas have their respective subspecies as pimpus lives in the Mediterranean while indicus survives in the Indian Ocean. Indicus are identified by having larger spines along their claws propodus. They, like other frog crabs are ambush predators, burrowing into the substrate and grabbing unsuspecting prey. They use their antennae and white eyestalks to attract prey wiggling them around to imitate a small marine worm. Though their lure mostly attracts fish they also feed on anything that gets within striking range like other crustaceans, cephalopods and even small pen shells before they have built up a hard enough shell to protect themselves from larger predators.

Outdated description, Indian Ocean is no long connected to the Mediterranean. This species survives 20myh in the remains of the Mediterranean.
