Description One of the "top dogs" in my universe, and apparently a very well-received character for some reason. Although I will advise against calling her "old", though, as you will soon find out.

Brief Biography
Iofiel started off as a very promising youngling (recently created angel) with her magical talent. Even among the Gabriel kindred, who are more in-tuned in magic arts, Iofiel stood out enough that she was handpicked to be trained by the Archangel Gabriel herself (yes, Gabriel is a woman in my verse). Gabriel sees Iofiel as a potential leader, and much of her teachings resonated with Iofiel to the present day. These include thinking before you act, never jumping to conclusions, but most of all, accept that only El is above everyone else, regardless of race or species. Perhaps it was fate at work as no one at the time will believe that Iofiel will eventually become the overall leader of the angelic race.

Iofiel was still a trainee when the War In Heaven broke out, ten millennia prior to current Orbian history, but during the early stages, Iofiel's talent for leadership and magic was already on full display. It was her intelligence and quick thinking that managed to keep the Gabriel kindred together, even exposing the mole within using just common sense and the clues provided. Although the Gabriel and Michael kindred share a rivalry over doctrine and aspects, Iofiel struck up a strong friendship with Malchediel, a warrior angel from the Michael kindred. Asides that, this was also the time where she formed friendships with the future Angelic Council archangels, many of whom credit Iofiel's diplomatic tact from keeping the kindreds from getting at each other's throats due to the Arch-Traitor's influence.

Iofiel is also notable for taking a strong interest in humans, a by-product of the angels' efforts to hamper and weaken the giant race, who sided with the Arch-Traitor. The accounts from human lores may differ, but all of them always made reference to a lady bearing a chalice, offering great powers to those who will take a sip from it. Those who accepted the offer became the ancestors of the first human spellcasters, and the chalice remains a symbol associated with Iofiel due to her role in raising the first generation of human magic users.

The War In Heaven ended with the Four Archangels willingly sacrificing themselves to permanently seal their wayward friend (the Arch-Traitor Luciel) inside the Maelstrom. The War was over, but the angels were now directionless without a capable leader, and the Scouring to push back the daemons and fallen angels from the Heavens was in full force. Unlike most of her kin, Iofiel recognized that the angels needed to reorganize themselves, as the possibility of the Arch-Traitor returning was very real. As such, she did not take part in The Scouring, and instead focused her efforts to form a new Angelic Council in place of the First Four. Even though she had hoped that this arrangement be temporary and she can focus her efforts to rebuilding the Gabriel kindred, the mutual distrust of the kindreds caused the Council to be embroiled in impasse after impasse. Haniel reasoned that the Council needed a leader, a figure that everyone can rally around and look to for guidance and counsel. Both Malchediel and Pyriel agreed that Iofiel was the best candidate, though Iofiel initially refused, due to it clashing with her belief that only El is above everyone else. However, after reflecting on her past discussions with Gabriel, and the threat of the Raphael and Uriel kindreds backing out of the Council, Iofiel reluctantly accepted her current position.

As the Head Archangel of the Angelic Council, Iofiel's efforts had been to keep the five kindreds together and trying to alleviate past grievances, although ten millennia later, things remain difficult due to many impasses between the kindreds. She could not count on Malchediel, who had relinquished his position as Head of the Michael kindred in order to figure out a way to combat their fallen kind. His replacement, Rahziel, was notoriously cold and austere, bringing along another layer of problems on top of her workload. As much as it pains her to give this order, Iofiel has issued a decree to minimize interactions with humans in order to focus their efforts on rebuilding the High Heavens, which was the only common interest that all five kindreds shared.

Personality
Iofiel harbors a great amount of respect for her mentor Gabriel, and at first, she was always going to put her mentor's advice first. However, over time, she began to recognize that she needs to learn how to use that advice and apply them properly instead of blindly following something to the letter. Even though she honors the memory of her mentor and holds her as an inspiration, a seed of self-doubt remains ever lingering. In particular, she still holds herself responsible for the inability to stop the First Four Archangels from sacrificing themselves, as without their leadership and charismatic presence, the kindreds began to splinter due to the seeds of mistrust sown by the Arch-Traitor and his followers.

Compassionate, intelligent and diplomatic are the three best words to describe her. Iofiel was one of the first to recognize the potential of humans. Even though she was the one who decreed that angels will have less influence on human affairs, Iofiel's optimism for humans still remain despite the many, many mistakes that humanity had committed over the ten millennia of their existence.Β Her quick wit and intelligence is often sought after by other angels for advice, while her diplomatic gift has prevented the kindreds from getting at each other's throats. It was these two reasons that she was deemed the only candidate to lead the angelic race in this new post-El age.

Iofiel does have a mischievous side to her, and she is known to tease fellow angels just to get a reaction from them, though all of these were never malicious. Iofiel is very aware that the "might makes right" mentality remains prevalent, hence she usually appears gigantic whenever she needs to prove a point (and she likes being big, for some reason).

Many in the Angelic Council see her as the "glue" that holds them together, and she maintains close ties to her fellow Archangels, even if she wished Malchediel was the Head of the Michael kindred to break the all-female "clique". Although the two have not seen each other for some time, Iofiel trusts in Malchediel's work, and hopes that he will return in time. Outside her fellow Archangels, Iofiel has taken a fancy to Remiel, a youngling angel from the Uriel kindred who now serves as her aide. Iofiel sees a lot of her younger self in him, and in turn, Remiel is very loyal to Iofiel despite not being of the same kindred.

Powers & Abilities
Iofiel is notable for being a powerful spellcaster, and it was this magic potential that first got the attention of her mentor Gabriel. Her quick wit and intelligence directly plays into her combat style, as she is able to cast spells in quick succession. Being of the Gabriel kindred, Iofiel's primary spell list contains a lot of water and ice based spells.

Even though the angel Peliel is most known for her "Aegis" spell, it was actually Iofiel who worked out the concept for it, as a way to conjure a magical shield against incoming attacks. Putting it in a more simple way: Iofiel crafted the weapon, but Peliel was such a better user of said weapon that it became associated with the latter than the former. Although Iofiel still uses her 'Aegis' spell from time to time, its effectiveness is not as great compared to when Peliel is using it.

Being one of the more friendlier angels to humans, Iofiel's condition to form a pact is to have a wise mind, befitting her title as the Aspect of Wisdom. She prefers Caster types, the descendants of those she had helped uplift ten millennia ago. Those who form a pact with her gain access to her form, as well as the use of her Aegis spell. How long the user can access her form depends on both bond level and their magic potential.
