When playing that game, I like to imagine that Shepard is very clumsy when it comes to showing his feelings, and doesn't quite know how to initiate a serious relationship...

While Kaidan is interested in Shepard... But because Shepard is being so "direct" in his approach, he believes that he's just seeking to make fun of him, and basically egging him on.

Kaidan would like something serious and sincere between them, but he believes that it's something that Shepard is unwilling to provide...

While Shepard really is falling in love with Kaidan, but doesn't know how to show it other than by being openly crude about it.

Hence the whole miscommunication issue and why it took Kaidan 3 frakking years to figure it out!

My Shep doesn't know what to do with himself as the only relationship hes ever been in is with "clients" so he's scared that Kaidan would either shun him for that or be just oike them soooooo. Yeah my cannon

I can't understand why everyone usually insist that they've still got things to do on the Normandy when Shepard is trying to decide who will accompany them on the next mission (because of course, he brings Kaidan everywhere. Poor guy can't catch a break!)...

Maybe Shep is slowly working him into exhauston and migraine attack so he can suggest that he take a break at the captains quarters.. It's the most quiet place on the ship after all.
