"A strongbox floating in space and a scavenger. An ordinary scene in the unstable corners of space where pirates and other unscrupulous kind roam. A side effect of the expansion of the space faring peoples was that some outposts and planets would be forgotten or left on the sidelines, leaving them weak and susceptible to becoming radicalized, creating raiders and thieves. And inside that strongbox, would await a creature that had long since been forgotten by the space faring peoples.

The unity that had lasted between the space faring peoples had lasted for long, but eventually it too was thrown into turmoil. It was disbanded, and reformed again an once more disbanded. This would repeat every few dozen decades once major issues would raise their head. These growing pains would leave some of the projects that were established by it forgotten and gaining dust all over space. One of these was the outpost where the parasitoids were quarantined.

The sector where the parsitoids were locked in became one of the sectors controlled by those beyond the law. People were leery at first of the quarantined outpost, but eventually the heavily guarded and seemingly abandoned rock would draw intrigue from the roaming pirates. Surely there would have to be something of value, otherwise it wouldn't have all the drones and mines watching over it. It turned out to be relatively easy to destroy the now ancient drones and mines and get to the outpost itself. However in there valuables would not be greeting them, but instead the alien organisms that had been contained there for such a long time that they had developed a heavy resentment towards their captors, and the pirates certainly looked to be of the same species. It didn't take long till their ships were infested and the parasitoids were freed from their quarantine, spreading through the space once more. And these pirate ships would serve them well, as many would be designed to be hard to detect on radars.

Indeed nowadays, when one would be flying through these less guarded silent zones, one should take caution when picking up anything floating in space, or allowing unidentified ships come close. As if you do, you may have pirates boarding your ships, or worse."
