On a typical day in Rhodes Island, Platinum is shirking her daily chores to hang out in Dokutah’s office while Dokutah works through the mountain of paperwork Amiya left for them to do. As the work keeps dragging on and on, Platinum finally can’t stand the boredom. Dokutah, needing a break anyway, suggests playing chess. Platinum is doubtful that playing against Dokutah would be any fun. "Will this battle be an interesting one?" Dokutah suggests adding a penalty. The loser will do any one thing the winner says. Platinum flashes an evil grin at this. Hah. Do you have the guts to gaze upon the true face of the one called Platinum, my dear Dokutah? You’re the strategist for Rhodes Island. After I beat you, will you still be able to proudly carry that title? Dokutah feels daunted by Platinum’s confidence, but says yes anyways.

Barely ten minutes go by, and Dokutah is staring at the board in panic. Despite taking no time to think between each move, all of Platinum’s moves have been decisive and placed Dokutah in a threatening position. "Hurry up, Dokutah. Make your move already." Dokutah is sweating as they try desperately to find a way out of this situation. As they look up at their opponent, they see a smug grin on her face and fear for what she’ll make them do if they lose. You may as well try to attack. You’re too weak anyway. Hesitantly, Dokutah plays their next move in a desperate gambit.

"You want to know how I defeat my enemies, Dokutah?" Platinum places her piece down, cutting off Dokutah’s gambit and placing them in check. Dokutah tries to run away.

"First, break their legs." Platinum moves another piece, cutting off Dokutah’s escape route. Dokutah has to block with another piece.

"Second, break their armor." Platinum captures the piece. Dokutah no longer has any way to defend, and can only waste a move.

"Third, pierce their flesh." Dokutah has nowhere to run away to, and no more pieces to use. Dokutah is left vulnerable and trapped, waiting for the final blow. Platinum picks up her knight.

"Now, it’s checkmate! I’m sorry, but victory is mine." Dokutah hangs their head in despair. Anyone can tell with a glance at the board who dominated the entire game.

"Now then, for your punishment." Dokutah felt their spine chill at Platinum’s words. "I think for your punishment, you should let me be the strategist from now on. After all, we’ve clearly seen how much better I am than you at it. Of course, we won’t tell anyone about it and you’ll still deploy me as an operator. We can’t very well send you to fight when my bow is so much tougher than you. I’ll tell you what strategy to employ and you’ll in turn command everyone else. In return for my help, of course, I expect compensation. Let’s see... Since I’ll be busy strategizing, I can’t be muddled down by my daily chores. You can do those in my stead. Also, since I’ll be doing a strategist’s work, I expect a strategist’s pay. Whatever Amiya and Kal’tsit pay you, you’ll turn over to me. You can deduct my usual pay in return for doing my chores. Oh and since I and the work I’m doing are so clearly superior, you should address me as such. You may address me as “Misstress Platinum” or just “Miss Platinum” if we’re in public. I expect the level of respect from you that everyone else gives to Amiya and Kal’tsit, understood? Kiss my hand if you understand."

From then on, Dokutah’s duties increased, and they were more sleep-deprived and overworked than before. However, Rhodes Island’s operations went more smoothly than ever. There were fewer casualties, and more was accomplished in a shorter amount of time than before. Amiya and Kal’tsit approved of the marked improvement of Dokutah’s performance, and encouraged them to keep working at this level.

Dokutah would work tirelessly for little pay. Meanwhile, Platinum enjoyed the newly increased pay and lighter workload, going out and spending extravagantly. "Hehe, I was planning on returning home after finishing the job, but now I’ve changed my mind. I like it here at Rhodes Island, Dokutah."
