This is a scan of a photo that I took in March of 1968 (I was 14). The photo was taken from the dome of the observation car on a Canadian Pacific train headed through the Rocky Mountains from Vancouver, BC to Montreal. The original shot was taken in black and white using a simple (manual) Zeiss Icon camera.The observation car had just entered a tunnel. I really like the way the light reflects off of the stainless steel roof.
(Updated 1-9-10; a higher-res scan with a somewhat defective scanner from a 3x5 print at 2400 dpi, then resized to 900 dpi to reduce unwanted streaking.)

I guess there was a lot of light. The train traveled through many tunnels and somewhere along the way it dawned on me to shoot this. I actually had a second tunnel shot, but it didn't come out as well.
What I didn't mention in the comment was that I was traveling alone from Vancouver, BC to Montreal on my way back home after visiting a childhood friend who had moved to Vancouver.

I am old enough to remember pictures of the Canadian Observation cars in Trains Illustrated.Never lucky enough to visit Canada though. Thanks for the memories.
