So, while everybody's been going nuts about the new Bachmann models (HO Scale Skarloey with cars? BRING IT!), The Adventure Begins and Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure (Arelsdale engines? YES.) during the 70th Anniversary this year, I've gone nuts about a REALLY big project opening this year: Thomas Land at Edaville USA.
Just LOOK at this! This map alone just blows those crappy "Thomas Towns" (really? A train ride with maybe one or two more attractions?) and the nice Thomas Land at Drayton Manor (rides and the railway look awesome, though some of the theming at times are "meh" to look at from what I've seen in videos and pictures) right out of the water! If the art that's been revealed so far is anything to judge by, it really does feel like Sodor! The natural landscapes, the community, the multiple "railway lines" (Thomas' Branch Line, the Dieselworks Derby, Troublesome Trucks Coaster, Winston's Aerial Ride, Tidmouth and Knapford), and even the appearance that it's an island (the surrounding river near Knapford, the "sea" at Brendam)!
Not to mention that it's going to have a good amount of Sodor built into these 11 Acres! You've got Tidmouth, Knapford, Brendam, Vicarstown, Great Waterton (the Winston ride is going to have a station based on it's buildings), Shaine Dooney (the Blue Mountain Engines ride, which they seem to have cut out from the map, as it's not ENTIRELY full. i.e. Troublesome Trucks Entrance?) and the SS&RC all represented here, and their representations look incredibly nice!
The rides themselves look like a ton of fun. The fact they're using a (hopefully) powered version of the railway's DOWT replica is pretty cool, the "Roundhouse Theater" sounds interesting (an interaction/showground area featuring the other engines?), the Dieselworks Derby looks like a nice little ride, the Troublesome Trucks coaster and the Cranky Drop Tower sound like a ton of fun, and the other rides seem like fun little family pleasers.
One nitpick I would have to make though IS the fact that Knapford Station doesn't seem to be an actual station this time around. I hope they at least do some grooved/painted tracks leading into the one platform that it's planned to have, because I think it'd dissapoint kids into knowing it's not the main station for the railway like past Thomas parks.
Other than that, I can't wait for this area! It looks incredibly nice and is bound to be a blast for the younger fans who are going to visit it! It's honestly the best Thomas Land we're getting so far since Drayton Manor and Fuji-Q's!
