The nation lashed at you with disparaging remarks.
I imagine their detestment and despicery.
Granted, you killed a Founding Father,
But there are two sides to every story.
With Hamilton having his told,

We forgive you, Aaron Burr;
Or, at least I do.
You were a man who succumbed to human error.
You were a man who fell to ethical misfortune.
However, let’s remember, Burr: you weren’t the only one.
Hamilton had his flaws.
Your mistake was agreeing to a duel,
Yet envy seems to be the worst of the two.

The devil enjoys toying with the weak of heart.
Jealousy devoured your soul as you witnessed Hamilton reach a social zenith.
That man taunted and enraged you; he behaved like a child.
However, he was a cunning manchild who was as petty as he was intelligent.
He was determined to make the world demonize you, just out of spite.
It is that historical low-blow that makes me give you compassion.
Hamilton stole the light from your vice presidency and made it cast an ominous shadow;
Made sure that you were seen as a villain, despite your honorable role.

Do you think Theodosia would have been proud of your choices?
Do you think she would have supported your greed?
She was ten years your senior but loved you anyway.
Perhaps it was your passion that caused her adoration?
Though, it was this passion that seems to have turned against you.
I don’t think Theodosia would have been proud of the man you became.
You might have been vice president at the turn of the eighteenth century,
But your legacy molded itself around your deploration of Alexander Hamilton.
