An entry for equiBREAK foal training group.

Paint the Rail had a special arena designed for working with spooky horses and foals going through the paces. It has some purple padded boards and soft sand so that if a horse panics, there is minimal chance of lasting injuries.

It had been a fun life for Merlot up until this point. While he was the only minimally marked foal in the entire nursery pasture, he had learned to deal with the dominant antics of his peers and thrived before weaning. After weaning, his peers looked to the most steadfast foal in the group to follow, and that happened to be Merlot.

Now it was time for the next step, and the staff at Paint the Rail had to separate the foals and work with them individually. They tossed a halter on each foal, manhandled them into the special arena, and started some desensitization. Merlot was the quietest of the group, being used to getting pushed around and responsive to body language. At one point, near the end, he stopped and attempted to itch the white halter off, not liking the foreign object anymore.

Other things done to each foal that day included letting them see a tarp, a ball, and a bunch of treats.
