My first kitbash.I was very dissatisfied with the 08th MS team HG Zaku II. It's a poor model, even for the day. The articulation was laughable, the polycaps required glue, and the stickers were awkwardly placed. Nevertheless, I wanted the kit because of the variant that came with it. The MS-06J Zaku, which made an appearance in Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story 0079: Rise from the ashes. I kept looking at my Zakus and this one just seemed out of place. Another oddball in the lineup was my HGUC MS-07B Gouf. Don't get me wrong, the kit is nice. I just did a terrible job of painting it. I went over it with too much enamel and had thought about using it for spare parts.
After seeing the amazing weathering done on [link] and asking the artist about his technique, I wanted to give it a try. I took out the spare Zaku light shield and started weathering. I didn't have any modeling glue so I had improvise a little bit but the end result was amazing.
tl;dr - Parts taken from HG MS-07B Gouf and HG MS-06 Zaku (08th ms team)

Thanks man. No, it's not too hard. Most of the kits after 2002 are modular so you can mix and match.

I admit. This is an entirely foreign language and lore to me. But. There are pretty damn cool. I'm enjoying these artistic shots of your builds, really I am. There's this whole implied narrative just in the images, and I love it. Mind if I do a study of one sometime, since I really don't do enough sci-fi content on my own?

I agree. A mech is supposed to be the evolution of tanks. It never made sense to me that mobile suits were painted in such vivid colors and presented with crisp edges. Tanks get beat up even when traveling. Dirt clogs up panel lines, mud cakes onto treads, metal gets scraped, etc.

That's why everyone likes 08th MS, they were portrayed properly. They broke down.
(And yes, the new gundam sagas are getting riduculous in their shiny Ubersuits. It's no longer fun to watch.)

Unicorn does a decent job of showing off those rare MSVs. The latest episode with the Zaku I Sniper blew my mind but yeah, nothing compares to 08th MS Team in terms of realism. The customized RX-79(G)s really gave you the sense that the pilots and mechanics had to improvise with the equipment they had. I read n the Gundam Wiki that the RX-79(G) was a limited run suit made from leftover parts from the V Project so if the suits were damaged, they had to improvise with repairs because there were no replacement parts.
