Description 7x12" watercolor and gouache

"Angusi Fumi" - terribly mangled greek and latin based on “snake of smoke." I’m sure this series makes taxonomists cringe…

There’s still a lot of things I could keep fiddling with, but I think I can be happy with it now! If you’re interested in the painting process, check out the WIPs on my Tumblr. inklingart.tumblr.com/

Hey there! The scanner light can indeed be harsh on work, so I use photoshop to clean my scans.

I use the selection wand and the eraser to remove the rough paper texture around the painting if the paint doesn't bleed off the page (I like a clean background), and then I adjust the Levels to make sure that the dark areas are dark enough, etc. After that if the colors still seem faded sometimes I sometimes nudge the Saturation up by about 5.

Hope that answers it!

Thank you! I use watercolor, sometimes with a little white gouache mixed in for opacity.

Interesting twist on the theme, having it partly escaping the bottle like that. This is the only one in the series so far that does that, isn't it?

Anyway, the colors and textures are splendid, as usual. I especially like how you've combined the fur with the scales. The scratched-up glass is interesting, too; it gives the impression that the snake likes to move around and around the inside and outside of the bottle. Or something. (Or maybe the scientist just didn't take great care of it before putting the snake in it. Either way.)
