Description A lot of the community probably doesn't like the idea of deviantART advertising itself, but honestly we have to get the message out into the world in order to bring in contests and the varying things that the community gets to enjoy.

Part of our promotional endeavors revolve around advertising to the ad agencies that represent big brands. The result of advertising like this is typically a slew of awesome contests like the Alice in Wonderland contest.

This is more or less a copywriting and typesetting exercise, aimed at keeping the brand messaging consistent across all of our external brand-centric work. The language might sound a bit buttoned-up to you, but it's geared towards the people who have the ability to make things happen. One of our biggest strengths, as a creative website, is that our contests result in amazing brand-related imagery that is usually so good it spreads beyond dA. This effectively creates viral artwork, which is what we're talking about in this ad.

The brush strokes are a common motif for us, as they're the best and most familiar representation of "creativity" that can be unspecific in subject and topic.

Looks really good! I love that dA is being advertised for what it's capable of

Did you use brush packs? I think I've used the same paint splatters before

Yes. Some are from dA, others I built. I have a mix of brushes.

For once I think your offmark here. The visual texture seems retro-grungy 90's style but your telling your corporate audience DA is trendsetting and cutting edge, I agree with your assesment of the brushstroke being a clichΓ© graphic that will always say Β«artΒ» but not witht the old treatment. The balance and type are on target and so is the message (love the footnote, packs quite a punch).

That being said I bow before your design greatness wich I am unworthy to challenge in my wildest dreams, and GO DA!

To be honest, I do not like the corporate colours of DA. Green with Yellow together always reminded me illness and disaster, especially these tones... Forms a very negative feeeling upon me. But from the other point of view since this is a deviant comminty, it may be favoured...

Different people have different reactions to colours and colour combinations - not saying you're wrong or anything like that (because you know best what you feel). I'd say the lighter colour here was lime, not yellow though

If that's true, DA will always be original

Hmmm. I love the brush strokes... it gives it a very artistic feel. The colors have a very deviant-ART(ish) feel, though perhaps you could use some of the site colors to complement the logo colors. I love how the white brush strokes on the bottom right make the dA logo stand out- very good!

7 out of 10... it's effective, but it feels like there's something missing.

Now THAT is some snazzy work, attracted me through the loads of other deviations in my inbox right away. Hopefully it attracts the big guys just as easily

Very nice ad. It's very simple with no lack of white space, and the ligatured fi has a nice look with the mini-fire symbol.
I have to say that it wishes you could correct the orphaned "spread." Then again, that could just be my dislike of orphans (in type-settings of course! )

Sidenote: I've always loved brush stroke motif dA uses

Technically it's acceptable since the headline copy is of a very brief line-length.

its a clear and simple message, if anyone hates the idea of promotion of artwork and media then they should probably stop looking at anything in the world since pretty much everything is branded and marketed in some way, shape or form. this site was built on the idea of branding and promoting artist and their work anyways.

design wise though its a nice and well branded piece that carry's over a lot of the design treatment of the site in a seamless marketing ad. pats on the back to all of y'al!

I love seeing things like this, it shows that deviantART has come a long way since it's humble beginnings. People can't expect a site this big to not advertise and promote itself, dA would stop growing very quickly if it didn't.
