Description MiG-17 #1905 wears a more unusual green and yellow camouflage scheme for the NVAF... later in the Vietnam conflict the North Vietnamese tried various camouflage patterns, most often variations of deep greens, browns and black or dark grey.

Oddly American pilots in the Dogfight series admitted it was difficult to see camouflaged Migs against the jungle. Odd because it makes you wonder why the North Vietnamese did not always do this. Quite a lot remained in silver.

Most US/Allied jets were silver too at the outset of the Vietnam conflict... Both sides started applying camouflage about mid-way through the war. The silver was a carry-over from the 50's when the silver or white was kept to reduce the flash effects of expected Nuclear releases... plus it was thought that the layers of paint applied additional drag to the aircraft due to small imperfections...

US aircraft had cammo applied in the factory, where-as the cammo on Veitnamese jets was applied after the fact (by hand with what ever paint they had handy) by the ground crews, mainly to aid in concealing them while parked on the field...
