Description My last artwork for 2014 (probably).

This is my OC Tina, being treated to a sunset after some messy, dirty mechanical repair and maintenance work. Tina is a pro mechanic and general grease monkey. She works on ships, mechs, and weapons, keeping them in tip top shape, as well as doing mods and upgrades on them. (More backstory and pictures of Tina in the future)

Done with Painter X on wacom intuos3 tablet.

I always like the gloves that aren't fingerless which is what she's wearing.

This is good.

It's funny how coincidences work and how they don't seem possible. I was thinking of Tina yesterday actually, and about drawing her again and updating her design. This picture you're commenting on is several years old.

At any rate, thanks for the comment. Yes, mechanics should probably have fully enclosed gloves; more practical, they don't get as dirty, and their fingers don't get cuts.

Awesome use of color and light and shadow here! Wow! There's such a strong atmosphere here -- lots of energy and the overall mood really makes you smile.

I love her expression! She's really cute. I love those big, bright eyes -- you see a lot of excitement and a genuine sense of happiness and wonder there. You can tell that she's a bit blown away by the sunset in that happy look in her eyes. And in that smile! Her smile is awesome. I like the shape of it, I like her teeth and tongue poking out a bit. And I like her happily raised eyebrows peeking out from behind the goggles. Her expression emotes really well.

Her hair is so much fun! I love the shapes of her bangs being blown back by the wing. That shapes alone look good, but the shadows and highlights really flesh them out and bring them to life. And I like how some of the shadows fade into that rougher texture at the ends -- that adds a great, organic feel to things, and of course it fits her messy, mechanic look -- but it also kinda of softens the sense of motion of her hair.

The colors are awesome. Like I said, I love the organic feel you achieved. There's this gritty, rough texture throughout -- in obvious places like the dirt caked on her skin, but everywhere -- you see it in the fading transitions between light and shadow on her shirt, in her hair, on the metal of the vehicle she's in. And the kind of soft, muted glow of the light as it bounces off of her -- it all creates this really appealing look and feel to the pic.

I like how dramatic the lighting is. You sell the sunset from how the light is cast on and bounces off of her as much, if not more, than in the background itself. I like the really warm tones that light up her face and the soft hints of edge lighting that brightens up the really strong shadows behind her. And the light and shadow does a great job of giving a strong sense of depth and volume to her figure, working with the textures of everything to give her this sculpted, lifelike look.

So...yeah. If it's not clear, I think you did an amazing job here. The colors bring this to life -- give it a really beautiful mood and atmosphere, and shows a lifelike sense of dimension and volume all throughout the pic. I love your use of texture here, and I think her expression is awesome -- so much emotion coming through. Great job!

Wow, that's a pretty detailed comment. I don't get those every time, so I appreciate them when I do. Thank you.

The lighting is lovely! I really like the colours. Your character looks really interesting too, I'm guessing this is some kind of sci fi story?

Thank you! I like working with rich color palettes, but I also need to learn how to work better with limited color palettes also.

If I ever get around to making an actual manga/story about the story she's a part of, then yes, it would more than likely be a sci-fi. I could easily make it a modern day story also, since her job would essentially be the same, just without the technological advancement.

Nice shading!

Move the wrench to the fingers.

Thanks!

Actually, I purposely had the fingers not on the wrench, sort of like she's resting her hand on it, or letting go of the grip.

I thought of alot of material for a story involving her last night before I went to sleep, so hopefully something can come of it.
