seriously. I did indeed laugh out loud. so much so that I scared my cat. Consider this one "cat scaringly funny"
also, the drawing in this one is stronger, the proportions to people more solid. It seems more confident overall. Especially the wordless panels of exchanged glances and subtly altering facial expressions. That's hard to pull off, and this one is very successful.

Thanks, I wasn't sure how I felt about it when I finished. I like it, but I don't :/
I have a burning question for you: do you think I overdid it? Has my rendering detracted from the humor? This was supposed to be laugh-out-loud funny but the response so far has been lukewarm. Is it funny or do James and I just think it's funnier than it actually is? In retrospect I fear the joke was too inside.

I think people are going to have to redefine how they injest humor when it comes to reading I Wish. For a while now, the art style has been so much more demanding than basically ANY other humor-centered webcomic that sometimes the joke is overpowered by, "Holy crap, the art". That's not to say it's a bad thing- it's very unique, which is difficult to be as you're not going to get the same audiences as, say, VG Cats or Penny Arcade. But it also means that I Wish has a quality basically nothing else does. And I think you should nurture that. Originality is a highly-praised quality in the long run.
If you and James keep working together and just doing your thing, more and more people will come around to it. You shouldn't change what you're doing to attract a more general audience. Those who appreciate it appreciate it a lot, and those who don't, don't.
Personally, it takes me two or three readings of an I Wish comic to bust out laughing, but every time I explain it to anyone, they crack up. (and that's not to say that only the writing is funny- for some reason, explaining the commitment and love an artist put into rendering baby guts gets people guffawing, too)
Just have faith in yourself, man. You're doing fine.

I'm actually way past caring what other people think after being surrounded by negative reviews for a year. I do intend to entertain people, though, so if I'm not doing that I need to fix it. Well, guess that means I must care what they think, but what I mean is that I don't let other people's opinions of my work hinder my artistic freedom and growth, only help it.
My style was developed for storytelling, not comedy, and as much as I've dumbed it down for I Wish I still worry about all of this. I appreciate the vote of confidence, I really do.
Hey, I was just hit by a thought: isn't it weird to see yourself surpassing many aspects of the skills of people you admire? I think it's weird.

Yes, alls we gotta do is keep going at top speed and violently shove nay-sayers into pits without ever slowing. I've come to see with clarity that I need to keep financial ambition and dreams of fame out of my art and just do it for love of art! I've been enjoying myself recently :>
Hey, since we're chatting here, I'm starting to animate a full music video (6300+ frames) and starting to learn Spanish and Italian. Also I haven't worked out for months and it shows but I tried to start again yesterday and did it like I did when I was working out every day. I threw up! Ha ha!

I too have vomited from excersize. I wonder if this is conincidental.
I thought you hated Spanish? Said it was a stupid language? Called the Mexicans lazy, dirty people?
... Well, maybe not quite that far. But I seem to recall you not being fond of it =<
... also... animation is hard. You are exceptionally good at it.
Share when you are done o_o

Hold on, you thought I meant that? No, I just needed you to think I hated Mexicans because of your Mexican blood. It makes sense.
Seriously I don't like the way it sounds, I prefer the other romance languages phonetically. However, If I'ma learn Italian, might as well learn Spanish, the careers I could build off of that these days are myriad, and many would leave plenty of time for arts. Also I could go to Little Italy and have real verbal battles in the language verbal battles were meant for.
The animation will be much easier since I'm doing the planning very carefully, I have many iron-clad methods of maintaining accturate proportions and get this: sketching one character for one frame only takes 3 minutes, tops. Granted each frame will show for 1 millisecond and I have to create backgrounds and worry about synching and then there's the inking and coloring to think about and I want a kitty macro for "I'm in ur studios, storyboardin ur animashuns," cause I'm totally storyboarding.
I'm not talking to you here anymore, DA is not meant for conversation.
