Description Just the sort of fellow you might find lurking under your bed at night.

Our youth intern is leaving for seminary this summer and so I thought I would give him a good-bye drawing. Where I got the exact idea for this, however, I have no clue. He likes Spiderman so I was like: "Spider... cat?" And I had been reading up on genus Panthera hybrids so I had big cats and hybrids on the brain, so add a spider and you get... a spiger.

The unscanned version looks much more crisp and detailed, but I guess this version is okay too. Some of it got chopped off, though, since the Bristol board I used was too big for the scanner.

In the book "Fragment" by Warren Fahy, there is a creature called the spiger, although it looks much different.

Ah man, that's pretty cool! Though that spiger looks more like a big furry spider whereas I was going for a more deliberate and obvious spider-tiger hybrid. Thanks for sharing!

No problem. Its actually descended from a kind of mantis shrimp. Great job on the drawing by the way!

Scratch his back in all those hard to reach places? Or pin down innocent cookies while they BEG FOR MERCY.

Either of those sounds plausible.

ZOMGOSH it's amazing. and freakishly terrifying to me. honestly, if I saw this coming through the... bed? really did you have to make it that close to home? terrifying but sooo artistically cool

Haha, nothing like a little monster to make you feel at home, right? (Actually, I probably shouldn't be joking about that because I didn't sleep at all last night because I was having terrible nightmares. )

Thank yah!

Gar, you’ve got to hate it when Scanners decide not to β€˜lay nice.’ Joy be the day when they are bigger, and lacking of an attitude!

However, yours doesn’t appear to be giving you any problems what so ever, I mean, just LOOK at how amazing this is! Sandpiper, you have fur down to perfection, I swear. And anatomy, you’re able to combine creatures together and still make them look natural.
As I know I’ve said before; we’re all waiting for you to finally write the picture book to go with these exceptional drawings!!!
The way the muscles are depicted, the mouth, the eyes…aws…Wow…wow. Again, you blow me away.

What a great going away gift; I hope he likes it! Though, that’s inevitable

Hahaha, I can totally see you going up to a wild spiger and hugging it, only to become bloated with venom.

Amazing pencil work, Sandpiper. Per usual.

I have no idea why, but I have this sudden urge to hug it.

Anyway, great job. Very creepy and sinister looking.

It's part of his hunting tactics! If he can't get close enough to paralyze you with his venom, he'll lure you closer with his cuteness!

Thank you! I love creepy and sinister (I'm not sure that's a good thing, heh), so I'm glad I can share my creepiness with the world.

okay, let me just say, this thing CREEPED ME OUT! *shivers* spiders....s-scary!!!

question! do you know what kind of paper will give you a nice smooth effect with colored pencils and not show to much white? i have been told bristol board is good, is there anything else?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSolitarySandpiper In reply to YourClosetNinja [2008-07-19 18:08:47 +0000 UTC]

Personally, I think spiders are among the most beautiful creatures in Creation.

I just use regular printer paper when I'm not working on anything important. It has the same texture as Bristol board, but is much thinner and therefore more likely to bend and wrinkle. Doesn't bother me much when I'm working for fun, though.
