I actually started this about a month ago, lost inspiration, then finished it today. Not too happy with the colouring job, but I'm glad I did. There's actually quite a bit of symbolism in it, as well as a story:

The blonde girl believes that she will live forever if she eats one human heart a day. Her father told her that before he dissapeared, so she waits by the window for his return. The ghosts on her right are the souls of her victims, each holding a mask representing the last emotion or thought they had before she killed them. The three are Sorrow, Insanity and Anguish. You can ee that their hearts are missing....The skull which the girl stands on is the mask that death wears, and since she believes that she is avoiding death, she stands "above it". As if adding insult to injury, she's personalized it with ribbons and a heart. The playing cards represent her cheting at the gamble-game of life.
There's more symbols than that underneath death's mask, but I think you can draw your own conclusions. After all, that's the fun of it, right?

Oh, and this was inspired by the song "Jar of Hearts". Not the song itself, cause I don't really like it, but the title. The thought of having a jar of hearts in the pantry (right next to the pickles) kinda thrilled me, and the thought turned into a story, then a picture.
