You're a cosplay genius. I would've loved to meet more fellow cosplayers since i cosplay as Japan and HK. However..i have yet to get my HK cosplay. I wish i could be part of pictures like this. xD

Thank you! The best thing to do is to become friends with other cosplayers (either online or at conventions) who love the same series as you, then you can do fun photo-shoots together like Raraki and I do! I met her at an anime event in Tokyo, and we've done 4 cosplay shoots together since that time!

It sounds like so much fun. Just too bad where i come from they have no clue what an anime convention is. When i cosplayed Japan people just stared awkwardly at me and it was only me and my twin there. She played as England. But i honestly just want to cosplay too. It's a dream of mine. The same as for going to Japan :3

They had the first ever anime/comic convention in my hometown this year, but I was still in China at that time! And there's no way any anime convention here in New Zealand could compare to the ones I've been to in Tokyo or Shanghai~ Tokyo is definitely the best! There are even cosplay stores where you can buy all the cosplay products you could possibly need!

OMG..Japan really is my home. There's no way Norway would ever be the ways i dreamt of being. No no..I want to learn Japanese and cantonese. It's been a dream of mine to stay in either Japan or Hong Kong somewhere. Ah..China and Japan..such countries i wish to go to but can't. I never have been to an anime convention. I want to go so badly.

I'm sure you will be able to travel to Japan, Hong Kong and mainland China some day! I highly recommend all of them, they're all wonderful places! And you should definitely time a trip to Japan to coincide with Comiket (the biggest anime convention) if you can!

I have discussed it with my mother and siblings. We're going in 2020. I am saving up so much money to go to Japan. It's going to be a life experience. My next goal would be Hong Kong. Definitely..and since i am so eager to learn their language. I am sure i'll be able to in a while. Just a little practice.. by listening to their languages carefully i am able to learn..but i cannot write Japanese or Cantonese. Ah..i just want to go! Everything i ever dreamt of is there! >w< ;w;Β

That's cool! The Olympics will be held in Tokyo that year! I think Japanese is probably quite a lot easier to learn than Cantonese, because Cantonese has SO MANY TONES, and in Hong Kong they write in traditional Chinese characters rather than the simplified ones used in mainland China. The Japanese spoken language is WAY easier than Cantonese (no tones!), and the writing system is probably easier to learn too, since you can first learn hiragana and katakana (which are both simple) before moving on to the nightmare that is Kanji (Chinese characters). I don't know Cantonese, but if you ever want to practice Japanese or Mandarin, you're welcome to practice with me!

Really? You can Japanese? I have been looking all over Norway for a teacher that's willing to teach me the languages i want to learn but no one had the opportunity to give me a chance about it. If you were able to be my teacher. I would pay everything that i own to learn these languages. I feel i am not worthy but i feel at the same time so jittery and anxious. Please teach me! Japanese and Cantonese. I won't give up..! Never!Β  Β I have been practicing Japanese on my own but it haven't quite worked out. I only can a couple of words but not full lined sentences.Β Β

I can definitely help you with Japanese! I've studied it for about 7 years, and I lived in Japan for about a year and a half.

My first suggestion for learning Japanese is to master hiragana. This here is a hiragana chart: i.pinimg.com/originals/b0/52/b… Using hiragana, you can write/read any Japanese word. Memorise the hiragana printed inΒ black first, since they are your 'core' hiragana. Once you know them, then it will be really easy to learn all the grey hiragana around the outside, since they are made using the 'core' hiragana. As we move on to more advanced stuff, you'll have to learn katakana and some kanji as well, but to begin with, hiragana is the most important.

To learn hiragana, my suggestion is to choose a vertical row each day (or every few days if you're busy), and just practice that one row until you can read them off-by-heart. For example, choose the 'K' row か き く け こ ( ka ki ku ke ko ), and just keep reading/writing them until you can recognise them easily.Β

We can also practice some basic words and sentences before you've learnt hiragana, but learning Japanese in hiragana is definitely more beneficial than learning it in roman letters~Β

K row.. ka ki ku ke ko..and i have been drawing the symbols but..they don't really look pretty. Kind of embarrassing in all honesty but this chart will do fine. So i start with the k row now and i will keep reading and writing them as many times as i can. If i forget i'll keep trying. Truly i am all sweating in excitement for how i am going to learn this wonderful language. Truly..the symbols look like something a kid would do better xD.Β

Don't worry about them looking pretty, all that matters is that you eventually learn to recognise them. I barely ever write Japanese by hand, I'm basically always just typing it on my phone or computer, so hand-writing isn't really that important once you know them. The only reason I recommend writing them by hand is that for beginners, physically writing them out makes them easier to remember than just staring at them on a screen does. Once you can read hiragana, you can start combining them into words. For example,Β γ‚γ‚ŠγŒγ¨γ† ( a ri ga to u ) arigatou means 'thank you'!

ka ki ku ke ko. I am starting to get a hang of it since i write it down on page. I am memorizing it rather well but the symbols is the only thing that disappears from my mind. It's not good but i can perhaps..be able to understand eventually. With time i'll be able to learn it eventually. I actually know what arigatou means but never have i seen it written like that. There' so much to learn. Oh boy.

Just take it step-by-step, don't overwhelm yourself by taking in too much at once. Just focus on learning the 'k' row ( か き く け こ ) for now. Once you can recognise those 5 hiragana off-by-heart, I'll suggest another row for you to learn too! And once you know the 'k' row, you'll be able to write 'Kiku' (きく) (Japan's name) in hiragana!

Would you be able to tell me what Japanese words you've learnt already? Because I might be able to help you learn some basic sentences with the words you already know. ^_^

I need some more time teacher! I am still practicing the words..let's see. Ka ki ku ke ko. I am trying to memorize them since i am very determined but i don't want to suddenly place my book down and forget i have practiced. I already practiced words but they were easily forgotten.Β  Also writing Kiku made me smile. I feel like i am taking big steps even with these letters.

I learned ohayoo gozaiamasu and konbanwa.. i also learned oyasumi and i already know konnichiwa.Β
I feel all nervous when i am sending you mesages cause i want to be able to fully know these letters in my mind. I am gonna practice for a few more days.

No problem, take as much time as you need! ^_^ Just let me know when you're ready for the next row of hiragana.

Cool, so you already know most of the Japanese greetings then! Since they're greetings on their own, I can't really think of a way to incorporate them into a sentence... So I'll teach you something new instead! I'll teach you how to say a really short self-introduction!

Hajimemashite. (This literally meansΒ "it is a beginning", but it's like saying "nice to meet you" in English).

Watashi/boku wa ______ desu. (This means "I am ______", so you say your name where ______ is written. 'Watashi' and 'boku' both mean 'I', but which one you choose depends on the situation and your gender. Females always use 'watashi', while males usually use 'boku'. However, in some very formal situations, males use 'watashi' instead).

Yoroshiku onegai shimasu. (This is quite hard to translate into English... It kind of means 'let's get to know each other/work together from now on'. It implies that you and the person you are talking to will be depending on each other in the near future, and that you are happy to get to know them. It often just gets translated as 'nice to meet you', but it's really about the FUTURE relationship between you and the person/people you are talking to.

So, once again:

Hajimemashite. Watashi/boku wa ______desu. Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.Β

Oh goodness..i need to memorize this too. Thank you and sorry for letting you wait on my response.Β  I was practicing on ka ki ku ke ko. But..uhm..i can only the three symbols of those so far. So i need to practice a little more and memorize it a little while longer. I am so grateful that you're willing to use some time every now and then to help me with my japanese. <3Β
